Will they have a D core

Description
Most of the numbers (especially for the RFAs) are all just close guesses on my part. They definitely have a log jam of forwards (this year too) so I think someone gets moved this year by the TDL.
The point of this was to prove that they can spend some money on a back-up and still have >$5M for a D partner for Rielly.

Lol the comments all the time about how the leafs have no cap space next year or only have 2 dmen signed is so insane. Someone tell the people on the radio about CapFriendly and how they can literally work it out for themselves and see how dumb the remarks are.

'Will they have a D core"WATCH THREAD. Leafs management aren't going on Stanley Cup run in 2020/21 without a competent (in their eyes) group of Dman.
Now you have listed six that the Leaf are have under contract for next year plus a UFA.
IMO a more probable situation is the Leafs are going to trade a forward with moderate cap such as Johnsson or Kapanen either trade for Dman or futures, which will create cap space for another Dman signing.
So you comment for Dman next year seems pretty accurate. Whether or not they have the cap or can trade for Dman help at TDL this season, that is questionable.

Couple things
1. I would not spend 5x5 on Hamonic if I were you
2. Yes the leafs have the cap next year but as a GM you cant be thinking 1 year at a time. Look at Colorado "oh they have so much cap space why don't they get Hall in the off season for 11M." Well aure they have cap now but over the next 3-4 years they dont really have any bad contracts coming off the books and a lot of players will need raises. Girard's 5M contract kicks in, Burakovsky and Zadorov need raises next year. 2 years from now Landeskog and Grubauer need a raise, Makar meeds a massive raise. Then 3-4 years, MacKinnon, Kadri, Donskoi, Byram, etc.

The Leafs dont have any dead weight contracts coming in the next 3 years either yet Rielly and Andersen likely both need raises. Yes the leafs have the room for a RD next year but they should be careful on how much they spend.

To be honest, I have no idea what an appropriate contract for Hamonic will look like so I aimed high because my overall purpose was to show everyone talking about how the Leafs have no one on D next year and no cap space to spend, is just plain wrong. I know that there's more to look at long-term, I just wanted to show that there's a lot more panic short term than there should be and even if they lose all of Barrie, Muzzin, and Ceci (obviously not actually a loss), their D core will be fine for next year.
