Notes for 21-22 season:
Kaedan Korczak and Josh Brook competes for Ben Chiarot (hopefully, lost in expansion draft) spot . Also, after 2 years of seasoning, Caulfied and Podkolzin are integrated into the top 9. Primeau lastly takes charge in net.

Patrick roy, martin brodeur pekka rinne curtis joseph, ed belfour , roberto luongo , marc andre fleury, jacques plante, tomas vokoun, and a lot more have played in their late thirtys and still had the same success. The age here have nothing to do with the fact that this defensive is terrible and Marc Bergevin didnt get help at all last 2 season. Last year he was the best goalie from late November to the end of the season. He finished 7 th for the vezina last year.

Sure. There are always exceptions to the rule. But the cast majority of goalies decline after 30. If he was still playing well I'd be willing to take the gamble. But the fact that he has played bad 2 of the last 3 years. I'm not taking that gamble.

There is no denying that the vast majority decline around 32-34. There are exceptions but they are just that. Exceptions.

I love how Avs fans always say how bad Price is and that they don't need a goalie. I'm not saying Price's contract will age well I'm I'll be the first to say paying a goalie 10.5 mil a year isn't where you should start when trying to win the cup, but imo I believe if he was traded it would be Roy 2.0 and Colorado would go on and win the cup this year and maybe once.over the next couple after. So avs fans, is Byram and a first not worth a cup?

Byram and a first are certainly worth a cup.

But I'd bet even money that grubauer will be as good as price over the next 5 years. MAAAYBE a tad more likely price is better. With the difference in contracts I'll take grubauer. That's without trading a single other asset. I would take grubauer in a one for one price for grubauer. Very few beat father time by 33. With his contract, not worth the risk.

Not even worth a conversation when including a first let alone a blue chip prospect.

this probably meen that vasilevskiy SUCK AS WELL THEN

Neither price or vasilevski having a bad half season right now means they are certainly a bad goalie.

However when you add the context that price has stunk 2 of the last 3 seasons, vs vasilevski who has been league leading the 2 of the last 3 seasons AND Vasi is 25 to Price's 32? The context matters

Actually goalie have tendencies of declining past 36-37.
Fleury, lundqvist, luongo, rinne, mike smith, ryan miller, tim thomas, tomas vokoun, have all performed very well in their lates thirty they where all number one goalies. So majority’s have tendencies to show that goalie age well. So price would stil have 5 good season out of 8 before turning 40. I mean goaltender who doesn’t age well are golatender who haven’t have real success in their career.

aging argument. That is not a documented facts for goaltender. Its a commun thing for players who are really physical. For a lots of other players the decline start in their late 30’s like joe thornton, duncan keith, martin brodeur. Jacques plante won the vezina at 39 in a thougher era. Tim thomas won is at 36, dominik hasek have won 5 of is 6 vezina after 30. Brodeur have won is last one at 35. Pekka rinne 35.

First its 38 not 40 that will end is contract. Secondly goalie have shown true the year that age wasn’t a factor. Martin brodeur, patrick roy, roberto luongo, marc André fleury, curtis joseph, jacques plante (who won the vezina at 39 in a way thougher era) pekka rinne thomas vokoun who barely had a career before turning 30 dwayne roloson. A mean age have a biggest impact on player who play a grinding physical game. Backes, neely, lucic, prust, ladd, clarkson. There the players that have seen their career taken a huge drop. Price doesn’t have a good year at all but last year he was the best goalie for a majority of the season exception wise of is first 15 game. He was mainly in first place in almost every other category after that. The year before he was injured for the most par of the season and canadien where really bad. This year the team is bad to but price have not been good. But saying that is play have decrease due to aging is not related to any facts or documentation.

Again there are exceptions. But they're exceptions. Jagr and Chara were awesome to their early 40s. Doesn't mean most can play that late.

Why don't you check out Jonathan Quick, JS Giguere, Jonas Hiller, Bryzgalov, Cam Ward, Corey Schneider.

And if that doesn't prove it for you here is the general aging curve in the NHL.

curve.png

From https://www.google.com/amp/s/hockey-graphs.com/2014/03/21/how-well-do-goalies-age-a-look-at-a-goalie-aging-curve/amp/

So yes some goalies are exceptions. And yes Price was the best goalie in the league from about 2013-2016. If I had him, I'd even be willing to gamble on him.

But would I be willing to BET that hell be an exception, when he has played badly 2 of the last 3 seasons and the majority of players do decline as he has? No I would not take that bet if it cost me major assets

Tim Thomas had a bizarre career and the Dominator was a goalie like no other. He had no style and just frankly dominated.

Also it IS a documented fact. Again here is the curve

Also note these curves tend to UNDERestimate how badly people age as they are kicked out of the league pretty quick when they suck so they can't pull it down.

Is only been bad this year. 2017 he had a knee injury for almost all year long play. So there no indication that he is declining since he was the best goalie last year from half november to the end of the season. And by the way that aging curve represents all the goaltender including backup goalie so that no representative at all. Bryzgalov was never a true number one goaltender. As for schneider and quick injury have been in cause. As for giguere is been for most of is career a number two or was goaltending in partnership and did well until is last season with Colorado when he was 37 or 38. So again goalie aren’t affect as much by aging curve like your cheap graphic.

You didn’t read the text this isn’t nothing scientific or a official document:

short, this type of curve extrapolates that a .920 (well above average) goalie at 35 will be at .909 in two years (quite below average) and .885 by age 40! It’s hard to know if this is true since we have so few goalies this old in the data set, but it is hard to believe that physical performance can drop off THAT much in a SINGLE year, even in the mid 30s.

The facts that their not much goalie in the late thirtys affect lot more the curve so this graphic doesn’t represent the actual

The least you could do is show how Colarado can take all that additional cap hit on their roster. It's a cap league and almost certainly even if Price had playing value at 10.5m, closer to similar money would have to returned to Montreal.

Did you just say Giggy was a number two? Giggy was the 5th player of all time to win the Conn Smythe on the LOSING team in 2003. He played between 53 and 65 games between 2001 and 2008 and was 5th in wins in the league in that time. What the heck are you talking about ? http://hkref.com/tiny/1fPL3

As a matter of fact he's a pretty damn good comparison for Price

Age 24-30 Giggy was 5th in the league in wins (http://hkref.com/tiny/1fPL3) and 4th in save percentage (http://hkref.com/tiny/WoIan). Difference of course is he didn't quite peak as good as Price did (no Hart, but he made it to the finals twice, won once, and got a Conn Smyth)

Price from age 24-30
10th in wings (http://hkref.com/tiny/u1vKb) 7th in save percentage (http://hkref.com/tiny/GXBIJ)

Look I've been polite (except for my heck above). I've shown evidence. You are cherry picking players and ignoring general trends. This conversation is going no where. Its up to you to believe what you want. But the fact that all players decline is a fact. The fact that is starts for the vast majority somewhere between 28-31 is also a fact. It isn't 35. If you want to see it for starters check out here (https://www.arcticicehockey.com/2010/4/28/1448993/goaltender-save-percentage-by-age)
goalie_svpct.jpg?_ga=2.71673876.646049948.1578280860-127098230.1563915151

I'm not trying to be a dick, or rude. It just is a fact that players decline as they age, it includes goalies, and while there are exceptions, exceptions are just that: exceptions to a common rule.

So I'll say it again. Price was the best goalie in the league from about 2014-2017. He was arguably one of the best players in the league. However, since then he has been okay at best. There is a chance its from injuries and ****ty D, but there is also a good chance its aging. Common things being common, it probably is aging. If you want to bet on someone to beat the aging curves, a superstar like Price isn't a bad guy to make the bet on. But I wouldn't spend a top prospect and a first to make that bet AND take on his contract.

I am cherry picking!! You took random graphic to prove your point when even the guys who made it said it aint right since he got not enough players to have a good sample. I get it that players are aging but there nonreal
Fact that prove that number one goalie are affect by that. Js guiguere have been number one only 6 season over is career and did only play more then 60 game twice. Then anaheim prefer to go with jonas hiller and bryzgalov and they got screwed. Find a graphic who show elite players and if they declined after 30 and after i will listen to your bullshat but for now the only thibg that your graphic prove is that there backes and lucic and all the fourth line players and the players that a role players don’t do well in their 30’s . And that exactly what your graphic is. I could do my own graphic and make them tell whatever i want. Depending on what sample you take. If there 5 anti niemi for 1 pekka rinne and 1 carey price its clear that the curve wont be favorable. Be that isnt the reality since both are above the other. There nothings mathematical in those graphic, they just put all the players in without any knowledge

For all Gm in nhl he is still a top 5 goalie. There no team that would like to have a guy like price in their goal. The facts that Montreal defense is terrible reflect a lot on is stats. He puts good number when the team play the good way. The facts that montreaL his giving around 15 chance a game in the red zone have a direct affect on is game and on is stats.

So you didn't read my post at all? Lol. Proce isn't my favourite player btw, and I'll be the first to say trade him. I'm just tired of Avs fans ****ting on him all the time when they have no clue. Their argument is 10.5 million and he sucks lol. Which I also said in my post take away the salary number and no one in their world would take Grubauer over him. Like I said, imo Price traded and ultra motivated after the trade would make them the best team in the league over the next couple years. Good luck winning the cup with Grubauer. If not Price you still need to upgrade that. Especially now before Makar has to sign and you can no longer afford a decent goalie lol

He sucks at 10.5 million, now retain 4 million and he's worth a package at 6.5 million not the package presented here but a package

Your blaming prices decline on the D in front of him, the D in front of him was no better 3/4 years ago when he was top of his game - he is aging , he is declining and he has an albotros of a contract

they had markov, on the left side who was never replace. Since markov is gone the habs have suck. That a fact. And price has a poor year! but he was 7 th for vezina last year and was the best goalie form mid november to the end of the season. That a fact. I don’t see people picking on kulak or mete or petry or on max domi 36 turnovers who turn into goal

"Sure"... Of the top of my head, a D consisting of prime Subban, Markov, Petry , Emelin, Gonchar, Weaver, Gilbert, etc was equally as as bad as Weber, Petry, Mete, Chiarot, Kulak, Fleury, etc... "Sure".

People are going on in here as if Price is as awful as yesterday's leftovers. You can disagree with the package all you want or the percentage of money Montreal would have to retain in order to trade price; but to pretend as if Price is some awful player that no gm in the league would be interested in is frankly deranged.

Dude. I didnt cherry pick anything. I literally googled save percentage by age. All evidence points to that. Your memory of a handful of goalies doesn't change that. There is no reason to call what I have been saying bull****. I've been reasonable and patient.

I'm done. I tried to be polite and patient. Your just being stubborn. Have a goodnight.

I could said the same thing about you. You are being as stubborn. You google ??? like internet is the only and the holy truth. Your graphics have not been made with reasonable sample and you just try to make a point out of it but there nothing to show there. Just block me if you can’t take the real deal. I dont care
