Ceci for Vatanen

Créé par: Goulet
Équipe: 2019-20 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 4 janv. 2020
Publié: 4 janv. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Move some bodies, shed some cap for Johnsson, and upgrade the backend.

This is about the framework of a deal, not specifics. Adding a young depth that could be more usefull in an expanded role on another team is the goal as well as saving on draft pick currency.

Scandella just moved for a 4th, could be market value for Ceci.

Gotta think NJD can do better than getting just Timashov for Virtanen.

True, plus at that price and cap hit, should be many teams bidding

Leafs should just keep Ceci as he is a decent defender. The Leafs defence of Reilly, Muzzin, Barrie, Dermott, Holl and Ceci is actually probably as good or better than most defensive cores in the NHL.

The team is 21st in goals against per game, has an arguably decent goalie, and has the best group of defensemen? What's wrong with their forwards???

Maybe. A 2nd is realistic but most teams cant offer a young roster player along with the pick.

The difference between a 3rd and 6th is irrelevant. NJ can expect to get a 2nd but not with a young roster player. The retention at this point in the season only amounts to 1.25M in salary so if they want a slighly better pick, who cares. Plus, if they have another retention spot, they can do the same thing with Ceci for this imaginary group of NHL teams in the market for veteran right handed depth.

Decent, sure. But Vatanen is better and the Leafs need cap space and have bodies to spare.

Tymashov doesn't have much value, every team has players like him or B/C level prospects that project to be at least a Tymashov level player, the Devils would get better offers then this for Vatanen, a 2nd round pick has value to a team in the Devils situation and thats the least they'll get for Vatanen if thy trade him.

Tymashov and a 6th don't do much for NJ and anything NJ could get for Ceci by flipping him is a bonus, not something they can factor in as part of the return for Vatanen in this proposed trade.

New Jersey easily rejects this offer.

They could easily get a 2nd and bottom 6 forward for Vatanen without retention

I agree he’s looked much better lately. He’s a good shot blocker and skates pretty well. He was just misplayed at the start of season as a top pair guy. But that 4.5 cap hit makes it not a bad idea to still look at moving him if you can replace him with someone equal or better but cheaper.
