Dad Michael was playing in Calgary when he was born. Dual citizen, but still represents Sweden internationally. Not that uncommon among sons of players.

Logan Brown is an example of the opposite; Dad Jeff is Canadian, but his Son Logan Brown was born in Raleigh while Jeff was playing for the Hurricanes. The difference is Logan Brown opted to represent the United States internationally.

The Foligno brothers played for different countries. Nick for the Americans and Marcus for the Canadians. Dual citizens have a choice but once you play a IIHF event for a country you can no longer switch.

Nylander and Steen of St Louis are similar. For some reason folks consider them Swedes only. Both born in Canada of pro hockey dad, but spent most of their youth in North America, developing their hockey style in North America.

I don't remember who it was but I do remember one player that apparently opted to play for a country that wasn't Canada because he felt it would be easier to make the team. That way he'd get more shots at the Olympics etc

That's a factor. Believe Team Italy in the Olympics beat the Canadian team. Only one of the "Italians" had been born in Italy, the rest in North America, to Italian born fathers.
Great Britain has an Olympic hockey gold, think it was 1932....with Canadian born players.
