First trade of 2020

Great trade for both sides, Ottawa needs NHL level d men and the Canadians have to many defense men so they might as well trade him.

hmmmm so Mike Reilly is gone..... now I've lost my "throw in" player for all my ACGMs.......

Claude Julien didnt trust Reilly at all so there's no surprise. He makes bad decisions every game, but he's good at transitioning.

MTL simply got what they paid for : a 5th round pick

5th round pick for a 7th (didn't even crack the lineup with Mete injured) making 1.5 Million.

Hopefully he gets a chance with Ottawa.

Don’t know much about Sturtz, but a 5th is probably fair. I’m betting that the habs make a move after this, since I’m not convinced Christian Folin is an ideal 7th defenseman.

Good pick up for the Sens. While he has defensive deficiencies he can do well on the 3rd pairing for a young and fast non-playoff team like the Sens.

Edit: I called it. I knew they wouldn’t trade Reilly unless they had a better replacement.

Can't help but feel like there is more to this than just a trade. Even if Reilly wasn't getting into games, he was the depth MB prides himself on and after the 3 others ahead of him the next best are all AHL level dmen. There was no point in making this trade right now considering the Habs are still attempting to make the playoffs on paper and depth on D isn't something they have tons of as is.

Not saying its a bad trade or anything, actually pretty fair deal but I think there is more to this than what it looks like. I feel its a precursor to something else.

Sturtz was a college free agent signing. He was a great college player, and when he first came to Belleville he looked great. The next season he was unfortunately extremely unlucky with injuries and barely played.

Fast forward to this year and he's 25 and the Belleville Senators are just WAY too stacked up front for him to even crack the lineup. Hopefully he gets a better shot in Laval, but I wouldn't count on him ever playing NHL games.

That’s good, Laval could definitely use him, with all of the injuries up front in both the NHL and AHL.

without seeing Bernard-Docker, Thomson, Tychonick in Belleville or Ottawa... all Otts did was fill a spot that C/h been used by 1st or 2nd round pick. to me, if Otts didn't find out what Sturtz value was, then it's a waste. How many Stanley Cups has Rielly won?
