Why would buffalo do any of these trades. They do not get back a single valuable asset. That risto trade is the absolute worst tho. Niku and a 3rd? How does that benefit the sabres in anyway. All this does is strip the team of depth for nothing.

The team you have now is going to finish tenth or worse in the conference and has a draft board that looks like Swiss cheese. None of the players I'm trading have any great value with the exception of Ristolainen, so your expectation that you should get valuable assets back for them is delusional. Niku will be an NHL defenseman and you will be disappointed if Buffalo trades Ristolainen and gets his actual value with that cap hit.

Trading Ristolainen for another defenseman? That makes absolutely zero sense. We're trying to move defensemen, not bring more in. Dahlin, McCabe and Pilut are the LHD going into next season. Samuelsson, Johnson and Bryson are the top prospects at LHD. There is no need for another LHD. (Or another defenseman, period.)

If the Sabres had any interest in trading Risto for a package like this, there’d have been a bunch of teams willing and the trade would’ve been done by now

That is a valid point. I should have given this particular trade a little more thought. Winnipeg seems like the most likely place for Ristolainen, and I should have considered whether they have a tradeable forward. Very accurate response.
