What's more impressive than 4 goals in a WJC warmup is 3 goals in your NHL debut, but Poehling hasn't scored since.

I'd be a little cautious with the prediction. I'll be 100% honest and admit I do think he was the steal of the draft because 15th was too low for that talent, but let's also go down the list of things he had going for him today.

It's team USA vs Germany
It's a warmup
He's on a line with Turcotte the #5 OA pick.
He's very familiar with Turcotte because they're line mates at Wisconsin so even THAT's going in his favor.

You are certainly allowed to be excited. I wish the Hawks were able to draft him (not with the #3OA...just have another pick) Just don't etch his name on the Hart yet.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but just a side note that Caufield and Turcotte aren't linemates in Wisconsin. They keep the freshman players separated. They do play together on the PP though.

i agree with you that its very to speedly to tell that he will make 800 goal nhl in his career!
But hockey amateur, pro or whatever cant tell that wherever he go, he score goal. ushl, usdp, WHJ-17 and 18, ncaa and we will see whj-20 goal goal and goal. i dont remeber that people telling that mattews will be not good as people said but look the stats its same or better for scoring in caufield stats
( im not tryng to tell that caufield is a mattews before everyone cry)

I dont think, like other, he will does 50 goal per year and a 100 point. but im sure he will be important part for the canadien. not necessary his first years. he will needs maybe an other years in ncaa and 2-3 years in nhl to become which kind of player he can becomes but im sure its not to much saying that he have a 40 goals 70-80 point season in his full potential.

but you're not right either

Caufields gonna be a star as its not every day that of the 1000's of players to compete in the WJC since Ovechkin's tournament setting 14 goals only Caufields tied that number . That was about 6 months after shattering Phil Kessel's USHL points record . Maybe he wont be top 5 consistently but he's got the skill to make top 20 for sure . For MTL though we're optimistic because Caufield produced well by Centers like keller and hugher but when he played with Poehling he hit new level of offense . (at worst he's a Gallagher at best he's a Kane )

His potential depend on his development and line mates. He is small, so he is more vulnerable to injuries and concussion. I don't wish him to be injured or a concussion

I would take the time needed to build him into a Gallagher 2.0 with skill if I was MTL GM, then is potential might be higher and for a longer period. He is probably work on adding muscles mass in the gym right now, the points on the ice are secondary (he is drafted). He need to prepare physically, they know already he can score goal.

Then when he is ready and played 1 full season (At least), we can compare Caufield potential to top NHL players

I meant that if there's a player that's a "fusion" of Gaudreau's skillset and Debrincat's shot, that would be a TOP5 player in this league.
