Who else are they going to choose? Who else can we really leave open? Just let them choose who they want there is no need to give up more assets.

Oh, it's going to get worse as we get closer to the Seattle expansion draft. CapFriendly's are going to have trades where the 31 existing team offer a second rounder to Seattle for taking on a unwanted 5 cap hit. Seattle is going to enter the season with 150m cap hit but will have 31 additional second picks at the entry draft.

Wish Leaf fans would stop putting Bracco in all these NHL trades. Well do it if you truly think he is an NHLer, but is he ever going be an NHLer?

I think Bracco could certainly be an nhler. He won’t be killing any penalties or checking top lines, that’s for sure.

How many other teams would have called up a 21 year old who was putting up over a ppg last season?

You completely missed my point. So what if Seattle chooses Kapanen, Bracco, Johnsson, or someone else; they are going to take someone, why lock them in to take one of the best of our available assets while giving them another one?

You're right Seattle is going to have choice of few equally valued players. Why protect one by sending assets when Seattle is just going to draft another one. I remember the angst shown by Leafs fans for the Vegas draft. The fear of losing either Leivo or Leispiec. Good teams, such as the Leafs are going to lose an NHLer either way.

I believe this tactic works in certain circumstances. For instance if you have a bad contract you would like to unload or say your loaded up on defense but you have a forward that’s unprotected that would clearly help your team more, then maybe your willing to trade a pick or and extra D or something. So I do believe there are scenarios this works. But in most cases if you have a bunch of guys left unprotected that are in a similar range then yes just let them chose and move on.

Pretty sure you guys are on the same side. Leafs probably wont have to lose one of those guys anyway. itll look something like

7 Forwards: Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander, Kerfoot, Johnsson, Kapanen
3 D: Rielly, Dermott, signee?
G: ??

so more likely we lose one of hyman or engvall (pending a trade)
