How then should the leafs address the fact that they lack depth on both offends and defense compared to the teams who are actually winning?

Quick question for you. How do you stay warm during the winter? Is there a stove under your bridge?

If you want Marner, start with Jones and vise versa.

The Leafs don't lack depth, they had a bad system and are starting to roll and the teams ahead of them should be concerned about that. A team with as much talent as TO who struggled due to a terrible system and injuries is not something that should be taken lightly. You're poll is just a troll looking for attention.

By system are you referring to Babcock?

Bad system implies that Babcock was bad; he’s not a bad coach he’s a demonstrated winner at most of the levels of hockey he has coached in. I do agree that his system was not conducive to the Leafs’ success with the team they have now, but he’s not bad

I like the idea of getting two players that can play for one. Front loading 4 forwards has really helped us out eh leafs nation?

Murray and Jenner are 26 years old, and really are kind just average players, yea they had moments of goodness. Marner though his cap hit is too high is very good player now and still has room to grow. Liljegren is expected to be a cost efficient and good Leaf for years...starting next year. Certainly the trade doesn't help the Leafs this year and hurts them big time in the future.

It's really a dumb poll. No team including the Leafs should expect to resign their UFAs. Leafs do have cap space next year even after signing their RFAs. In they do need more cap to address an need, let's say on defence, they can trade a good forward with cap. Certainly wouldn't be trading 11m Marner for 8.3m the meh Jenner and Murray. Just because the CBJ have wasted their cap space and draft picks, other teams shouldn't be helping them out.

I think he did what many successful people do, he became ruled by his ego and refused to bend to any new ideas. He was stagnant and his motivational style just doesn't work anymore. No one wants to be berated, it just doesn't motivate people. I respect Babs for what he's done in his career but if you don't evolve you die and he refused to evolve. It'll be interesting to see what happens with him next. Does he get another job and try to do the same stuff he did in TO, thinking that it was the players and GM's fault and not his? Or will he actually make changes to what he does and evolves?

What about Marner to Anaheim for Hampus Lindholm and perhaps some other change? It would be great if they could get Rakell also (low salary and proven goal scorer)

81 million for a salary cap + 33 mil tied up to 3 players is a tough situation - that’s 40% of the cap to 15% of the roster...tough times

We'll say how paying the big four and overpaying them by 5m affects this Leafs long term. This is just the first year of those big contracts

Though I kinda agree with your suggestion of two players for one. They should good players. You can't really say Boone and Murray are difference makers at 8.3m. Gee, they are overpaid.
I won't trade Liljegren for those two Columbus players. Murray is a UFA the Leafs have lots of cheaper forwards as good a Boone. Liljegren has hope and hopefully lots of cheap term and a Leaf.

How has the "alleged" good defence and goaltending worked out for CBJ over the years? Bobvorsky in net, Jones, Werenski, Savard, Murray on defence. One playoff round win since inception. Even after trading the never seen the playoff Nash for Dubinsky. Seven years, 4 playoff appearances Seems like it has been organization for years that can't manage personnel or the cap wisely.

If you Dubas current GM and future prime minister of Canada, what two players would you try to acquire for one of the big 4? I suggested Lindholm and Rakkell in an earlier thread - what do you think? Are there other options you feel may place the Leafs in a better situation?

My opinion on the Leafs this year is they aren't good enough. No amount of trades can make them better this year Due to the overpayment of the RFA, they weren't able to retain the competent Hainsey and Gardiner. And while I don't mind ridding themselves of Zaitsev long term, Ceci isn't as good as Zaitsev this year.
Next year they will have some cap flexibility and maybe during the summer they will have trade some forward cap for defence man cap.
I wouldn't trade the big three. Nylander I don't think he great value at 7m (though many Leaf fans disagree), so maybe he's still a piece that stays. I'm thinking secondary players like Kapanen or Johnsson might be traded. They would bring cap relief and their spots could filled by other Leafs wingers...The Leaf seem to have abundance of potential good wingers and still cheap. Use that cap space difference to boast the defence...and maybe a second goalie. For cap reasons the Leafs will be depending on Liljegren and Sandin to make the team next year. Along with Reilly, Dermot and maybe UFA Holl...that's five. Finding two competent mid priced Dmen is the puzzle.
