As an Oilers fan, this is a tough one. I think that's a fair package for Nurse, but obviously he's extremely valuable to us. 6'4" fast skating, hard hitting, 2way dmen don't grow on trees. Ultimately it'll come down to what he wants on his new contract. If he's willing to sign for 6 million then Edmonton would be crazy to trade him. If he holds out for 7 million +, which many people think is what he'll demand (I think that's too much), then yeah, Edmonton might accept this trade.

I don't mind the Oiler trade for either team. But it's really Nurse for Kapanen and Liljegren. Bracco and the pick, IMO are NHL meaningless. As Leafs I wouldn't want to get into a Nurse RFA contract negotiation seeing the past record of Dubas and friends. Cap certainty with Kapanen and Liljegren might be more prudent and the Leafs think Liljegren is the real deal.
Vatanen for five years....rather not. Woll isn't NHL ready next year.

Oilers 3rd pick history. Last five 3rd rounders.....no NHL games. (OK maybe some of those guys still might make the NHL 2005 to 2013. Twelve picks for a total 505 games or an average of 42 games in a career. Facts say. Pretty meaningless to include 3rd rounder if you truly expect NHL difference makers.

Adam Fox, Anthony Cirelli, Brayden Point, Pesce, Buchnevich, Guentzel, Duclair, Pelech, Vesey, Lindell, Freddy Andersen, Parayko, Matt Murray, Korpisalo, Gostibehere Are all 3rd rounders from 2012-2017

3rd rounders aren't useless, the oilers scouts are

Over 210 third rounders in that time period you mentioned. Odds are you aren't getting players of consequence. Just saying judge the trade on true NHLers or at with Liljegren you have a record of him in the AHL.

Told you that would be a fair package...the only difference is this guy added Liljegren which I don't think we would need to do.

Would it still be horrible if Liljegren wasn't in it? I only ask because me and @Trickster where discussing this exact deal last night minus Liljegren because I don't think we need to add him.

Liljegren certainly kills this trade but it’s not the only reason.

I want Dermott at 2ld next season. Having Rielly nurse and sandin at LD leaves no room to move sandin up in the foreseeable future. Having Dermott there means when sandin shows he is ready we can move Dermott to the right.

There's a very realistic possibility that Bracco doesn't make the NHL but I think it's a bigger probability that he does...to what degree is uncertain but he has the tools to be a useful NHLer IMO. I also think he would slot into the Oilers top six and be an effective playmaker. Would you do this deal if Liljegren wasn't in it?

Very valid points!.... But isn't it better to have more talent and figure out the rest later? What if Sandin could also play his off side well? Like I said I get your reasoning and don't dispute it but there's no denying Nurse brings an element to our team that is sorely lacking. He'd basically be a younger Muzzin.

I don't think the Leafs are gonna move Liljegren or Sandin. Too many years of control and they need those two guys to be NHLer next season for cap reason. I just don't see the Oilers moving Nurse, their best Dman either. Kapanen alone doesn't get it done, and it's not like the Leafs can add a Dman to the Oilers.

I've been preaching this... Sandin and Liljegren's greatest value to the leafs is their ELC although that doesn't mean they aren't talented and that's not what I'm trying to say just that a lot of leaf fans don't want to trade them because in their eyes they're the second coming of Lidstrom. Your right Edmonton probably doesn't want to trade their best defenceman but if he's not willing to commit long term then they may not have a choice...time will give us our answer.

I believe Nurse is "controllable" for two more years, so as you suggest there is time. A playoff appearance by the Oilers might be Edmonton long term more appealing for Nurse. I'm not being anti Oiler or Edmonton but given the choice, Edmonton would be one of least favoured destinations as UFA. Probably the worse travel schedule, the weather, lack of winter sunlight and not really a good team (though the can change) are negative factors being an Oiler.

Spot on! I'm not saying I talked to Nurse himself but I have a buddy who grew up on the same street as his family and sometimes still talks to them, he told me that Nurse is happy where he is but he'd like to be closer to his family. Who knows if any of this is true and like I said I'm not claiming to have heard this first hand but that's why I made the comment about him not signing long term. It will be interesting to see how the situation with nurse plays out and if my buddy was telling the truth or not...although he has no reason to lie to me and he's a wings fan so he has no skin in the game.
