Description
This proposal is based on the rumors suggesting that NJ wants a young defensemen in exchange for Hall. Please note that I'm not trying to say that Romanov is as good as Byram.

It is also based on the trade that Ottawa and Vegas that also involved an elite winger.
Stone and Lindberg (NHL) FOR Brannstrom, 2nd round pick and Lindberg (AHL)

I would also suggest that MTL signs Hall 8y X 10,5M

Not as a rental. Just like Mark Stone last year who signed during March. I also think that wingers have less value compared to the other positions but that's just my opinion.

No chance Shero agrees to a trade that doesn't include an "A" prospect, a top 4 D (present or future), or a 1st rounder. The fanbase would flip out over this trade. Romanov is far from a sure thing.

Jersey probably doesn't want Byron...but those other three pieces, maybe not quite good enough. Most of Hall trades I see on CF are outlandishly favour the Devils Really I can't see Montreal wanting to resign Hall, Montreal has Domi to resign and needs an bit of an upgrade on defence.

Good proposal anyhow, but a 1st might be needed. We know COL might be favorite, but I really doubt Byram would be involved in a trade.

If Byron is involved, MTL could resign Domi and Mete next season so he would have to be in there.

If Romanov is involved, it might be because of Bergevin's talk with him last week in Russia. Maybe he's not sure to sign in MTL, maybe he'd prefer New Jersey, or maybe he'd prefer an other and more lucrative contract in the KHL before coming in the NHL with a ELC

Generally, teams aren't going to trading for a significant rental (like Hall) unless they are "assured" of long playoff run. Canadiens, Florida, and Leafs seem to be in a battle for the third and last playoff spot in the Atlantic. So unless a team, in this case Montreal thinks Hall if the difference maker to just making the playoffs, do they trade futures for a playoff appearance?

MTL can't get Hall just as a rental, it has to be a sign&trade. He can be tempted by MTL if Bergevin offers a front-loaded contract (just like Aho). But no money left for a top 4 LD and we'd lose a potentiel top 4 in Romanov. So we'd trade a need for an other need

But Hall can be valuable to MTL because he can make the team competitive while Price and Weber are the core, and in 3 years with the prospects pushing. It works with Bergevin plan that seems to be being competitive now AND in 3 years (in french, we'd say he wants "le beurre et l'argent du beurre"). But he might have to choose instead of trying to do both

It’s fair, but this makes absolutely no sense for the habs. Our biggest need is LHD, whereas we have a surplus of forwards. And we could have Romanov @ less than a million, or Hall at $10 million into his late 30s. It would make no sense to trade for Hall unless the price is laughably cheap.

A first doesn’t need to be part of a trade at the deadline to make it fair, see the Mark Stone trader last year.

The Habs should acquire Hall who is an upgrade on Domi and then move Domi for an upgrade on D.

Lol you can't take anything that happens in Ottawa as a bench mark

Still, just because it’s most common to have a first in a package, doesn’t mean you can’t trade a prospect with equal or greater value than a first instead.
