Codi ceci has been the most consistent leafs defenceman this year and has done everything the leafs have asked and expected of him. They are likley looking to resign him on term at around 3mill per. Every year leaf fans jump on one guy for no good reason and this year its Ceci. The gms likes him the coach likes him. Leaf fans need to start watching more hockey if they think Ceci is a proplem

Not while he’s injured. I do see him as a mobile asset. Leafs seem to have too many middle 6 LW.

He's tradeable skill and value wise. But his skill for cap hit is pretty damn good for the leafs given their cap issues. I doubt he moves.

To put it in perspective his cap hit is lower than guys like Mikheyev or Engvall

Not discernibly...

Mikheyev and engvall make 1.1% of the cap and Moore makes .95% you are arguing about .06%. Matthews makes 13% of the cap by himself. Splitting hairs over 150k is sort of ridiculous.

Mikheyev and engvall seem to already be taking a much larger step ahead of Moore. Not that I don’t like him.

Normally I'd be 100% with you. But to carry 1 vs two healthy scratches is a question of 700k this year. Every dollar counts to reach that. They are right at the edge

Long run 100% with you. This year? It's that tight

If no trades are made it will be 21, sometimes 20... soon as we get it down to 19... party time. Emergency loan and the cap doesn’t matter anymore.

If that ever comes about, have leafs had a full healthy roster yet?

They haven't had a healthy roster yet but if they do having those extra bodies is essential

I know on this website they make a huge deal out of it... but how important is it really to have a guy like Marincin or Timashov to sit in the press box? How often does a player go down during a game and it’s not a big deal. I would love to see the leafs roll 4 lines with 3 centres lol.

It's because you don't get cap relief unless a guy is down for 10 games or 21 days (LTIR). that means you'll have to dress guys who are banged up and could use a night or two off because you have no other options. Or if a guy has an illness or an emergency (say death of a parent or a good thing like new child born) than you're dressing 19 players.

You can get away with 11 forwards but it's not ready to get away with 5 defenseman.

I'd be happy to be corrected but everything I can find about emergency recall just means the players are waiver exempt not about cap benefit. If be happy to be proven wrong smile

I’ll put the section of the cba up butvyes, emergency loan players do not count towards the cap after we play a game with 19 players. There are some stipulations but I think this is what Pridham was counting on.

Chicago literally just had to recall a goalie from their ahl on emergency loan because lehner is sick and they had to play the game with 17 skaters because they had no cap to bring him in.

As per the cba

(e)
than the sum of the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and $100,000 (i.e., that Club's Averaged Club Salary is greater than the Upper Limit minus the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary minus $100,000); (ii) a Player on such Club becomes unfit or unable to play (i.e., is injured, ill or disabled and unable to perform his duties as a hockey Player) or is suspended; (iii) such Club is
unable to sign and/or Recall a Player with an Averaged Amount equal to the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary plus $100,000 under the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception; (iv) as a result of such Player being unfit or unable to play or suspended and the Club having Payroll Room less than the sum of the Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and $100,000, the Club has fewer than eighteen (18) skaters and two (2) goalies ("18 and 2") on its Playing Roster (pursuant to Section 16.4(c)); and (v) the Club played its previous game with fewer than 18 and 2 (a "Roster Emergency"), then such Club may, beginning with the second game and continuing with all subsequent games and without any charge to the Club's Averaged Club Salary for the duration of such Roster Emergency, add to its Playing Roster the requisite number of "emergency replacement" Player(s), provided, however, that (i) each such Player may not have an Averaged Amount that is more than the then-applicable Minimum Paragraph 1 NHL Salary plus $100,000 (e.g., $625,000 in 2012-13); and (ii) each such Player may only remain on that Club's Active Roster during the period of the "Roster Emergency."

The team has to play 1 game short a player before they are able to use this loophole.

Cool! Good to know.

Interestingly they would be limited to who they could call up. Would have to be a guy making 800k or less (minimum plus 100k). So guys like marincin, Gauthier, Petan, Shore would all be eligible but engvall or Sandin wouldn't.
