Description
20-21 Wings. Essentially this hinges on Yzerman having no confidence in the current core being able to contend due to lacking so many pieces so trades AA and utilizes cap space to take on bad contracts to acquire assets as there aren't any vets to really sell off. Looked for some decent prospect upgrades at each position. Thought about trading Mantha as well, but the team just looks horrific without him.

Goalie signing (Smith) could be any older stopgap UFA with a .905 Sv%. Could be Lehner or Markstrom too but would be a bigger contract. Don't see them hitting UFA though.

The Montreal trade could be a deadline deal as well. Might want a little more if it was.

Don't know if Ottawa would worry about moving on from Ryan at this point.

Obviously a complete hypothetical and don't expect this many trades to actually happen, just a sample of stuff that might be interesting. Didn't sign a few of the RFAs who are borderline at this point.

While maligned for the contract, he's a good forechecker and can help skilled third lines with possession. Possibly the hardest working guy in Detroit.

Your signings are a joke, Mantha gets at least 8 x 7.5 and Bertuzzi and Athanasiou get at least 7 x 5.5 Bertuzzi maybe even more.

Montreal isn't giving up Romanov to get rid of Alzner. Ottawa is in the same situation they aren't going to pay us for taking cap they need to make the salary floor. Carolina isn't going to pay that much for AA. I don't think Bowey gets moved because of the expansion draft yes we can protect players but you also have so many players unprotected that meet certain requirements.

I agree with your first 2 points, but I don’t see Yzerman keeping around a trash can like Bowey. For the expansion draft you only need 1 defenseman that meets a specific requirements. DK will meet those, but I think there is a chance they will protect him, so with Ericsson, Green, Daley coming off the books Stevie will have room to sign a serviceable Vet or 2 that meet those requirements or make a trade. I just don’t think Stevie is the kind of GM to keep some trash can around just for the sake of those requirements, I think he will find another way. That’s just my opinion, and what I hope happens because I hate watching Bowey be awful defensively night in and night out. I don’t care if he puts up some points, he’s bad

Ok maybe he could sign a vet but why trade when you don't have to that would be giving up to get a player to give up. Most of the mock expansion drafts I've seen have either Bowey or Dekeyser going.

A trade would be last resort obviously, but maybe he could acquire someone cheap like he did with Fabri, Erne, Perlini. Just need someone serviceable and better defensively then Bowey, which I think will be fairly easy to find in UFA

Refresh my memory was there any "cap dump" trades this summer that involved a team parting with a quality asset to move said "cap dump"? Cause I can't think of any at the moment.

I kinda think GM's have wised up to the point that unless you're completely desperate it's just not worth losing quality young players or 1st round picks for some cap space so I think it's a reach to think any of these trades would happen.
