Is there a case to be made that McDavid - despite the gaudy total his deal possesses - is still a steal of a contract? His ask during talks was a lot closer to $14M at the time and knowing that he's still a mile out from his peak, can that deal (maybe not now, but some day) start to look like an absolute bargain as the cap continues to rise?

It's essentially the same thing as what happened to Sidney's deal, except I think it's happening sooner.

All I can tell you is that you are wrong about Nylander here. I know his rep is bad on this site, but anyone with eyes can tell you he is absolutely worth his deal and more. From an analytical point of view, he has been the 23rd best player NHL wide this year (dom luscyzyn's gsva).

I'm not saying Nylander is a bad player. But IMO he is 1m overpaid, I think he deserved a contract around 6 - 6.25m/year. He don't deserve more many than Mackinnon, Barkov, Huberdeau, Scheifele, Gaudreau, Forsberg, Pastrnak. Those players are on very great deals and deserve their spot on ''best contracts standings''. Nylander is overpaided and don't have his place on this list. If he were paid 5.75 or less I might would've include him, but not a 7m.

I'm not saying Johnsson, Kap and Kerfoot are on decent deals, but their contract are more accurate than Nylander's. William received more than he should only because he decided to miss half a season and it 've put pressure on Dubas's back.

You underrate Nylander badly man. He is REALLY good. If he were a Ufa today he'd be making 8+ with term easily.

I also don't know that it is fair to use a retained deal and compare it to the other contracts. Also Barrie has been good for exactly 3 games, so maybe chill on that front
