Marincin could also just as easily move to the minors.

Petan - this is a no brainer for both EDM and TOR I really don't know why it hasn't happened yet.

Also swapped up the D-Pairings a little bit. I think that Holl has earned the promotion and SOMETHING needs to happen to spark Barrie's offence.

if they are only trading a pick for a return. both teams would be better off picking them both off waivers and keeping their 6th round pick

They missed the chance on Petan, he cleared waivers and can be sent down without problem.

I believe that since both have already cleared in the last 30 days that they can go down without issue

No we was placed on waivers earlier and cleared. When he was brought back up, he had to be up a month or 10 games before having to pass through waivers again. So he can just be sent down since neither of those but I have seen the same reports. I am not sure whats going on to be honest.

I am with you I have no clue what is going on LOL. This is my view of what Dubas should do but I got no sweet clue. I'd also try to get rid of Ceci for nothin and then throw a picks/prospect package at another team for a #4RD

If you had a different move lined up for a guy like Tanev or something similar, I'd move Ceci. Otherwise, I hope Dermot moves up to play in the top 4 and Ceci on the bottom.

His 30 days are up from the original waivers which is why he is on waivers again and we'll find out at noon tomorrow whether he clears again. Which I hope he does.

That's what I thought to but read they placed them on waivers so wasn't sure when they were brought back up. Id like to see Dermott play along side Rielly. Trade Ceci to like winterpeg for like a 6th even keeping a small amount of salary. and bringing back up a bigger D man like Gravel again. then atleast they can have some spares on the roster

I've thought about the pairings like that as well, let Muzzin and Holl do the heavy lifting and let Rielly and Barrie start in the o zone.

Replace Petan with Timashov. He needs to clear waivers as well and wouldn't.

The problem with that though, is that Ceci is just better than Gravelle. Unless they are moving Ceci and giving Sandin the 3rd pair LHD spot to him to play with Holl, I'd just keep Ceci. Unless there is a move for something else.

Yeah give Muzzin and Holl a lot of D-zone starts and matchups. Let Rielly and Barrie run free. I don't know how sustainable that is. Ceci might also look better in sheltered minutes as opposed to looking like an anchor on Rielly right now.

That's a possibility. Timashov is young and could get a better return too being on a longer + slightly cheaper contract. And Toronto does have enough prospect depth to replace Timashov next year.

Clearing his 4.5M could open up some possibilities.

But if you have to move Ceci, and then move Kapanen all to get someone just slightly better than Ceci, is it really worth it? Dermot I think is going to push Ceci down the lineup and that alone is going to make Ceci look better and help the team without anyone being moved in a bad trade.

If you move Ceci there is no reason to move Kapanen. And moving Dermott to the right side we would need to bring up a LD and its best to leave sandin down until next year. Grav had some good games and you should never expect the 3rd pairing to produce its more just keeping the puck out of the net. He will also play the body which leafs need. The goal is to free up about 3M from their roster to have spares through the season.

I think its more beneficial to move Ceci now then later in the year

Having spares is more important than fielding your best lineup? Because lets be honest here, Gravelle looked better than Marincin, he didn't look good. He wasn't terrible and Ceci is better. So freeing up 3 million so we can have 3 guys in the press box is just a waste. What if someone gets hurt? The Marlies are down the road, they can manage. Running a worse roster so you can have spares isn't strategically smart.

clearly you have high expectations for Ceci. If he gets moved to the 3rd pairing I bet his +/- goes to **** like all of his years playing. I really don't think Ceci is that good.

That is some backwards logic. If he moved to the 3rd pair, he'll be playing very sheltered minutes against lesser competition. Not sure why his +/- would plummet when he is being asked to do less than he is now. I am not a fan of Ceci, however, he's been far better then advertised on here and is definitely an NHL player, definitely not worth 4.5 million and he's absolutely not a top pair defender. That being said, he isn't terrible, just not very good. So if you are moving Ceci, you better have someone who can do as well as he can and Gravelle isn't that good. If Dermot is better on the top pair, takes Ceci's PK minutes and the Leafs want to bring up Sandin to play the left side of the 3rd pair, then maybe you move Ceci for anything but I think unless there is a different move that brings in a better defence, I think you keep Ceci.

My logic would be because he will not be playing with a good player saving him. lots of teams will score against him. yes I think him playing less minutes is better for Toronto but I think he will get scored on lots playing with the bottom pair. I don't think he's a bad player either but I think anyone playing less minutes would be fine just doesn't make sense to pay playes over 4M for 10 mins a night. Sandin could get back up but wouldn't be good for his development.

Your logic is all over the place. Playing less against worse players will hurt him. He is being asked to be the main PK guy, which he isn't good at. He's being asked to play against top opposition every night and that is putting way too much pressure on Rielly because he just isn't very good. So if you play him less and against weaker competition it'll be worse for him? That doesn't make any sense. Sheltered minutes is better.
