I think they use they assets in the Toffoli deal to acquire a defenseman and a kind of grittier forward. I can see a package containing Joseph moving to LA for Martinez and a guy like Clifford

just because they "gotta go" doesnt mean they have to. both killorn and gourde have full ntc this year as well as johnson. that team isnt adding much.

They both see the writing on the wall. Ntc or not the bolts have to move pieces out to maneuver around the cap and they will both unfortunately be cap casualties. Neither are high maintenance players and I can't see either being overly resistant to a change of scenery.

And yes the argument can be made for why would they leave tampa who most think have the best chance to win? Well look how it worked out for them last year. Just because you have the best team on paper or the best record really doesn't mean s*** come April. Both Killorn and Gourde have both seen a dip in their production not for a lack of effort but for a lack of opportunity, this roster is simply too deep to afford everyone the opportunity for equal ice and powerplay time and these players are both suffering offensively because of it. I would imagine that both would welcome the opportunity for a fresh start with a new and increased role somewhere else, and especially knowing the leadership qualities and experience that both possess, I can absolutely see either welcome the challenge of being apart of the rise and growth of a young team like the devils, who aren't as far away from contending as their record may suggest.

I mean players usually add a NTC because they dont want to move to other cities and would like to remain in the one city for their term. Personally I dont see them waiving it, players love to play in Florida due to all the tax stuff as well as the weather and climate of the region. I just dont see them waiving it but who knows, im not them so cant be sure.

Dont put Killorn in same vein as Gourde .. Killlorn a 3rd liner with annual 40 pt production on a digestae $4M contract .. Gourde .. with his CAREER 125 pts has a $30M contract next 6 years .. JBB gave top 6 money to a career 26 year old AHL player !!!!!!

The fact that you have an unmanageable roster isn't the fault of Gourde, Johnson, Killorn or Palat or their agents, so it isn't their problem to solve by waiving their rights, which presumably had economic value when they acquired them. So unless you have a magic wand to wave (pun intended), in which case this isn't a CapFriendly discussion but a J. K. Rowling one, you aren't moving any of those four or Kucherov, Point or Stamkos either, and the only other forward you have who has a significant cap hit is Cedric Paquette. And freeing up his $1.65MM tag probably isn't enough to land you Tyler Toffoli, let alone Taylor Hall.

The recent Phil Kessel experience(s) shows that players aren't shy about invoking an NTC and aren't completely opposed to waiving one in the right circumstances. And if you think going from a Stanley Cup contender to a playoff pretender is the sort of scenery change Yanni Gourde is longing for, you're much more optimistic about human nature than I am.

I have yet to see one Tampa trade of their NTCs that makes sense. Players 99% of the time refuse to go from a good team to lousy team. So really I think it's unfilled fantasy that waive their NTCs. Gourde, Johnson, Palat, Killorn are staying in Tampa. And they can certainly use their M NTC so that any teams don't want them and their contracts.
In this post how does Tampa pay for a six million dollar increase for Hall next season, plus Valeslsky's 6m raise?

Tampa won't be going after Hall at the TDL. If he's available he'll generate a bidding war that Tampa won't want to be a part of. If I'm Tampa, players like Kreider and maybe Toffoli are more reasonable targets if Tampa is looking for a pure rental, since neither will likely re-sign with Tampa. None of Gourde, Palat, Killorn or Johnson are leaving at the tdl, as mentioned above they have full ntc's this year, great shot at a Cup, tax advantages(which did have some factor), and the fact that the ntc was attached in order to get the players to likely take a little less aav. Gourde makes 700k more per year than Killorn, not an outrageous amount and both contracts are pretty fair for what the players bring. The same can be said for Johnson and Palat(assuming he continues his resurgence this season). Tampa hasn't usually traded for straight rentals but if they do, Kreider or Toffoli for picks and prospects seems the most reasonable plan.
