What this team needs

Description
1. Fire Babcock. I am a fan of Babcock and It's too early to panic but nothing that I have seen from the leafs the past few years gives me confidence in them winning one round in the playoffs let alone the cup. The way the play is not how you win game sin the playoffs.
2 Trade some skill for character and grit Nylander and Kapenan or the two that I would like to see moved. Nylander has a awful year last year and has look better but still not his usual self this year. Now might be the time to trade them for some grit and something that this team has never had. A good shutdown defenceman.
3 Bench/trade Marincin. The guys makes two huge mistakes every game. You can't have that. There is something to be said about playing risk free hockey.

As a Rangers fan I could see Kreider being that character guy your team needs, especially in the playoffs. Would you trade a 1st round, 3rd round, and someone like Petan (or instead a 4th round pick) for Kreider? NYR could retain up to half his salary. What's your opinion on something like that?

To quote former Indy Colts coach Jim Mora. "Playoffs? You're talking playoffs?" IMO the Leafs (and their cap) are pretty well going to have to go with their current lineup. Leafs have plenty of wingers, even centres, I don't think parachuting one guy is going to make a difference. Now maybe a Dman would help but it's going to be at the expense of a good forward. Marner hasn't done much this season. Is it missing training camp malaise?
I've been on the "fire Babcock" platform since April 2018. I think he is terrible game manager. Now I don't think Babcock is entirely to blame for the teams play this season, but IMO the players don't have much faith in Babcock.

I put all the blame on Babs. Most of the problems aren't defenceman issues but positioning issues and that is all the coaches fault.

That was a classic quote by Mora smile. Heard an interview with Mike Commodore on youtube where he didn't exactly have the nicest things to say about Babcock... Seems like Mike Modano, Chris Chelios, and others might agree as well. Kreider as skilled as he is, would also give Toronto a physical element they've seemed to have been lacking in the playoffs.

a coaching change could be what this team needs.
Pittsburgh did it during its first two cups during their Crosby era
St Louis did it last year

I believe Babcock is a good coach but there just is a incongruence between the type of team he wants and fits his system and what Dubas is currently building

i would wait until Christmas before doing anything, gives Babs at least a full month with a healthy lineup (Hyman, Dermott, Tavares should all be 100%)

I proposed a Shaw/Gus trade for Nylander. I thought that was a fair trade and solves needs for both teams. VERY unlikely the Hawks are willing to trade Shaw and take on a big cap hit with Nylander, but thought it was interesting to say the least and pairing both Nylander brothers together could ignite a fire with them...or completely backfire as they get cocky and comfortable.

Gus is the wrong type of player for the leafs.

Kreider would be a good fit but I don't think they can afford to keep giving up first-round picks

The leafs need a defensive defenseman. PK player who is solid in his own end. Gus is a good defenceman but not a good fit for the leafs
