Who will we target next offseason

Description
Trading for Ristolainen or a rental like Vatanen ain't helping the team this year, and we would probably have to overpay since every team knows how bad our defense is.

Where do we put that $8.5 million? Hamonic? Barrie? A 2C? I think the defense looks okay, but its very young for sure. Roslovic looks poised to take that 2C spot. Samberg goes in if we don't sign anyone, and If we do he plays for the Moose for a year.

Extend Laine, and try for Barrie, I really don't love Hamonic, his relative on-ice stats aren't particularly impressive for the price tag he'll get.

I'd even kick the tires on Pulock and consider offer sheeting him. That last one won't happen, but damn I wish it did.

I think if we could sign Barrie that would be fantastic, the true PP QB we need after Buff is gone. Morrissey is great, but him being LHD is a problem, he can't get the puck to Laine quick enough. Trouble will be convincing Barrie to come to Winnipeg, I know we wouldn't have too much trouble convincing Hamonic since hes from Winnipeg.

Disagree about hamonic. Barrie isn’t going to help keep the puck out of your net.

Hamonic has below team-average possession stats on every team he's played for. Keeping the puck out of your net is easier when you're playing your minutes in the other team's zone.

To date, it seems like money has been the issue much more than the lure of Winnipeg. For the record, Statsny waived a NTC to come to Winnipeg and it seems like lately a lot of players have not had Winnipeg in their no trade lists. If Barrie can't come, I'd rather target Tanev than Hamonic, just cause I think Tanev will be cheaper and in less demand. Both guys give pretty similar products on the ice.

Barrie is a career -63 and hamonic is +1. +/- may not be the most accurate stat but regardless of possession it seems like Barrie is letting the puck in his net. Puck movers like Barrie need a solid defensive player to be paired with.

The only reason that Tanev may be cheaper than hamonic is health. Is that really a bargain?
