Defensive personnel decisions have been baffling

Description
Don't want to come across as someone who is anti-Maurice, but the defensive personnel decisions are just baffling. We are playing a waiver-claim in the top 4, Bitetto who doesn't even look like a #7 Dman, and Kulikov on his off-side after 2 seasons of below-average play on his strong side.

I know Beaulieu is out and there is the Buff situation but these defensive decisions are not working. That and Heinola has 1 bad game and gets benched but veterans get a free pass to play badly.

Throw Beaulieu in on pair 3 when he's healthy. Niku hurt his groin in the AHL again but once healthy he should be in the NHL, not send down because he's not 6'5" or doesn't have a New York accent.

Adam Lowry was the Jets 2C last year, second off the bench. His analytics are off the charts good, but this year he is getting little minutes and is constantly hemmed into the defensive zone because he's playing with a 13th F (Borque) and a guy who played in the AHL last year (Letestu). Tonight when his wingers were upgraded he looked good and spent quality time in the O-zone.

Send Gus to Sweden once Little is healthy

Jets have been getting luck this year so far and changes to the lineup need to be made, both forwards and defence.

Lowry is so overrated in Jetsville, he's a good 4C but that's it!

Part of the reason they've been doing well is because he's been put further down the lineup, he simply just doesn't have the offensive instincts to play any higher up the lineup. I agree his wingers suck right now but he is what he is, a good 4C that plays a physical game and is an okay penalty killer, that's it.

would they give up a good piece right now like conner or ehlers for a dman or is it too early to think that might happen?

Who knows really, they'd be absolute morons if they did.

Laine would probably be more likely if he has the season like he had last year. Im not sold on him, hes a terrible skater and a huge liability on the ice. Everyone is talking about how good he is with 11 points but wait till December comes. Will he still be putting up points or do what he did last season and become invisible after November? He is pretty famous for his hot/cold streaks.

Last year Lowry was a good 4C. The year before that he was 5th on the Jets in scoring per ice time, led the NHL in High Danger Chance Differential %, and is pretty much responsible for getting Brandon Tanev a ridiculous 3.5x4 contract. In 2017 Lowry was absolutely putting up 2C numbers.

In 2017 when Copp and Armia were carrying him?

Copp and Perreault likely had a bigger impact on Tanev getting 29 points, and a bad GM decision got Tanev a ridiculous contract, not Lowry.

The majority of Lowry's minutes were with Tanev and vice versa, and Copp was significantly worse away from Lowry in a way that Lowry really wasn't. Going into 2018 it wouldn't have surprised me if he had a down year because of the back injury he sustained carrying his line mates. Armia was good, but Armia pretty clearly wasn't driving that line.

Armia definitely made that line go, it certainly wasn't Lowry. Remember when Perreault and Armia were making Hendricks productive, that's what having good wingers can do for an average center... Lol

Different people, make different people go.. Case in point, Patrik Laine. You seem to have a selective memory. Armia was good, but he was a good middle 6 winger, who was flexible through the lineup, and definitely brought some value defensively. Lowry for his ice time was one of the top 3 most dominant Jets in the year they made that run.

Not sure what Laine has to do with anything.
Yes I know Armia is a good middle 6 winger, might be the best 3rd line RW in the league.

Fit matters. Laine is a prime example with the centers he's played with. Perreault and Armia made some magic together hauling around the corpse of Matt Hendricks but you're acting like it's an accomplishment that one of the top possession players and a middle 6 winger took a fringe NHLer and ate other 4th lines for breakfast.

As for top 3RW in the game, I think you may have a slight bias there. I'll hold off on giving Armia the title until he manages a full season. I would have loved to keep Armia as a jet and it's ridiculous that we traded him to get rid of a guy on an expiring contract, when we probably could have at least shipped out Kulikov, but Armia was the 3rd, 4th, or 5th best player in the bottom 6 in 2017 depending on if you count Little, as a bottom 6 player when Statsny arrived, and how much you read into Roslovic scoring at a rate of 2.3 P/60 in his rookie year which was 2nd on the Jets in limited sample size.

Lowry is one of the better shut down players in the league, especially at his price. He doesn't have the deep defense supporting him as he did in previous years and it shows. I don't think it's fair to point the finger at him in that aspect, the Jets bottom 6 is not the same since Armia and Tanev left. Roslovic is a top 6 talent and while he may not be showing it yet, being stuck in the bottom 6 doesn't help. Some of the guys in that bottom 6 aren't buying into their roles and it affects others.

Too early I think. Especially because the org will give Buff all the time he wants.

Personally as much as the D sucks I think it would be a mistake to give up a piece like Ehlers/Connor/Laine. Someone like Roslovic for a decent D who's not 30+ and has term would be ideal (obviously the Jets might need to add more than just Rosie in said trade).

Geez the guy is good at playing a big man's game, big deal! He's a good 4C like I said but that's as far as it goes with Lowry. Armia is a great middle 6 winger and is definitely missed but Tanev was terrible, good riddance! I'm not pointing any fingers at Lowry, he is what he's always been from the day he entered the league, a good 4C.

Roslovic has been pretty good so far this season and its cause his wingers have offensive instincts like he does which was my point of why they've been doing decently so far, the bottom 6 is made up of an offensive line of Perreault-Roslovic-Appleton and a checking like of Bourque-Lowry-Letestu. I know Lowry's wingers suck right now but Bourque and Letestu play a similar game that Lowry does, of those 6 players that's the best way to make the lines.

Trading Roslovic isn't ideal at all, Lowry for a decent defenseman with a bit of term on the other hand would be a solid trade to make.
