If I was manager of Oilers I would never do this, they have lots of D, no wingers! They have Bouchard, Jones and Lagesson that can all play in the NHL

Sheary is a winger; and he's probably on the first line in Edmonton.
Edmonton has a lot of good young defenseman, but I'm not as sure they're ready for the NHL. You could start out with the D-corp below and replace Russell with Bouchard when he's ready.

Nurse - Larsson
Klefbom - Ristolainen
Russell - Benning

Do Sabres fans still not understand - despite Edmonton's flaws - that nobody is paying a premium price for Ristolainen?

If you want this deal, drop the 2021 2nd Round Pick in favour of the Buffalo 2020 1st (unprotected) and toss Davidsson in. I literally don't care that Puljujarvi is in this deal: in what universe does one of the league's worst defenders and a middle-six winger net you a defensively-responsible top-6 center? Christ almighty, give something up if you want to get RNH. Teams should pay for what players are worth, the Chiarelli days are over. The Oilers won't pay for what Sheary or Ristolainen could be in Edmonton. They'll pay for what they've been in Buffalo, and that's only a couple steps north of NHL replacement level players.

Yup, he would jump right in and post a minus 50 again, we are trying to be more defense responsible, not the other way around.

Strictly because Larsson broke himself last night.

Regardless of where Ristolainen slots or how bad Edmonton's right side is, Ristolainen is not a good NHL option. Factor in his cap hit, and that's a lot of nothing to send RNH away for.

Listen, I'll be the first one to say Risto isn't great. But tossing in an unprotected 1st and davidsson just for RNH is just crazy talk.

Not at all. There's a very good chance that these two players - in combination - don't impact the NHL at RNH's level.

Edmonton does not have the forward depth to support an RNH trade. If you want him, throw fair value out the window and make it worth the Oilers' while.

Sure, and there is also a chance that RNH walks after next season since he's a UFA. Unprotected 1sts have enormous amounts of value nowadays with the lottery system. Hence why 90% of trades involving a 1st round pick have conditions attached to protect it in case of a lottery win. It's a ridiculous ask and RNH isn't good enough or have enough term left on a deal to justify it.

I agree. Edmonton most definitely does not have the forward depth to justify trading RNH. I don't think they should. I also didn't purpose the trade and I don't want RNH. Just pointed out how your counter ask was asinine.

Playing top minutes against every teams top players . Plus minus is the most misused stat in sports . You better watch him play this year before bashing him . Just makes you look like a fool.

Friendly reminder: Risto sucks. (Evolving-hockey RAPM chart here: https://gyazo.com/7cf8555ae8e6c6973e8a2094afc7409f). That takes into account score effects, Quality of competition/teammates, zone starts, and just about anything else you can think of. He cannot defend and is below-average offensively at 5v5. He is, at best, a 3rd pair PP specialist.

Playing top minutes does not mean you are good. I could play top minutes against the best players in the NHL. It wouldn't end well, but, well... *gestures at every Sabres team that has had Risto in that role*.

+/- is a terrible stat and should never be cited in it's basic form. Strength-specific +/- is the only valid form, and even then GF% is almost always better (and there are arguments that xGF% and CF% are better options than that, too).

The Sabres aren't realistically a contender without an ROR-level player (wonder where they could've had one of those). RNH isn't that. No reason to give Edmonton more help in the draft lottery, they've had plenty

Nothing's topping Hall for Larsson as long as Brannstrom becomes a top-pair D. Hall's a LOT better than RNH.
