Description
Obviously another trade would have had to been made (probably Strome or Kreider) beforehand to make the Cap work. Just gauging value of the trade itself.

We didn't keep Hayes as he didn't fit in the timeline, so now we are going to trade for a player 2 years older who is locked up for another 5 years... I don't see it. Also Tony D is on a show me deal, he's looked good with no training camp and is going to be playing for a huge payday. I'd rather hold onto him for now and if we aren't going to sign him long term then move him at the deadline to highest bidder.

While I get your point, we knew Hayes was going to get an obscene amount on his next Contract (he ended drastically overpaid even more than that), while Henrique is more of a bargain deal based on their production. Plus, despite his age, I think Henrique has been more consistent, anyway.

He has 5 years of control. DeAngelo has 4 years. Top 2 RHD for Top 2 C. Plus we not only have Fox, but Rykov and Lundkvist shortly down the road to fill in the gap on the right side.

Please explain the logic of trading 23 year old Defenseman who is just coming into his own that we're paying less then $1,000,000 for this season and we control for the next few seasons as well. for a 30 year old Center we'd have to pay almost $6,000,000 for 5 years until hes almost 35.
Also if anything the NYRS are looking to dump Namestrikov's $4,000,000 salary. Your trade actually adds almost $6,000,000 for 5 YEARS.
Don't think for a minute the Rangers are done rebuilding. A trade like that hurts long term. We already have a bunch of players coming off their ELCs who are going to need raises.
Why do you think they aren't negotiating an extension with Krieder? Because he's 29 and going to look to cash in. As much as I love him He's a luxury NY can't afford. Not now or 5 years from now He's not going to be a hometown discount. I love the guy and having Panarin and him on the left is potentially explosive. But don't think for a minute come the deadline, even if the Rangers are in the playoff hunt, Jim Gorton wont sell him off to the highest bidder and bring back at least 1 #1 pick and or a top NHL ready prospect.
I get your trying to bring in a veteran center, but the Rangers organization has young talented Centers that they are trying to develop. If we were close to being a real playoff team in 1 or 2 years and the younger guys cant get it done, the Rangers will go out and get what they need.
This is a Salary Cap driven league. And the bad contracts you take on now - Adam Henrique - will all come back to bite you in the butt when you need that extra $5.8 million.

I also don't understand why the Ducks would want to do this trade. FWD- Namestikov 1 year $4 mil 26 yrs old UFA, DEF- DeAngelo 1 year $925,000 -RFA for an Established Center at a reasonable price tag
By the way the only reason Anaheim has $9.2 million is because they have over $10 million on INJURED RESERVED

BTW - Rykov is a Left Defenseman who can play the Right side if needed.

Yes, Rykov is an option to fill the gap, as I said.

Basically trading from a position of strength for a position of weakness. I like Andersson and Howden, but I don't think they project as more than 3rd line Centers. Chytil may be an eventual 2nd line Center option, but that remains to be seen.

Henrique comes with a larger price tag than anyone else we currently have for that position (after Zibenejad), but I still consider his salary a bargain based on his production (especially with the money current Free Agent Centers are now getting). So while I agree with your point that money will get tight, I felt like his Contract could still be worth it.

I like DeAngelo, too. But you need to give quality to get quality. I just don't see him in New York long term, especially with the Defensive resources they have. If there is a young, cost controlled Center that could be acquired instead, I am all for it.

i agree with you about Andersson & Howden. #3 Centers, but that's not a bad thing. Chytil should not have started last year in NY so we lost a year of development.
The problem with Henrique is not only the money but the term and his age. If the Rangers were going all in this season then maybe i'd consider it but they are not so its a non starter for me.
as far as Give Quality to Get quality goes. In today's NHL a cost controlled 23 year old Right Handed D-man is WAY more valuable then a 30 year old 2nd Line Center making $5.8 Million for the next 5 years

Forget about the lack of a #2 Center for now. Give the kids time. if we're in this situation a year or two from now, the Rangers will go out and get someone either through trade or free agency
