Kings are rebuilding. If they're trading Doughty, it's going to be for young blue-chip prospects and draft picks. Oshie and Gudas do absolutely nothing for them.

Hahaha this trade is off but nobody is paying 3 1st round picks for DD. He’s overpaid and has too much term. No thank you. In 3 years you can get him for a bag of pucks

Stuff like this is why the Caps fanbase is getting a negative reputation.

Even though Doughty had a down year, he still has his Norris pedigree and would cost a fortune, especially with any retained salary. And if LA were to make Doughty available, it would be for rebuilding pieces. We'd have to give Samsonov, Alexeyev, a first or two and then some. Not worth it on our end, given our already thin system and Doughty's contract.

I agree with you but His contract is terrible and would likely turn into a bad contract is 3-4 years. Not to mention alexeyev is going to be a stud. Not DD LEVEL but he can easily could turn into a mini Carlson. Caps don’t need to load up like this

He's in the top five of the best D in the league...

My top 5 would look like this:
1-Hedman
2-Doughty
3-Karlsson (if healthy)
4-Pietrangelo
5-Burns

Oshie is a 30 goals scorer and Gudas is a 4th D... clearly wayyyyyy off for Doughty

Well, actually, defending everything the team's players get suspended for is why Caps fans have a bad reputation. I'm just hilarious!

Doughty had a terrible year last year with just 20 even strength points, same as Gudas, a tough, reliable, slightly-overpriced #4 defenseman. Maybe Doughty will bounce back. If not, I gave the Kings a younger, tougher defenseman with the same remaining skill, threw in an old 30 goal scorer, and saved them $34 million. You want some picks with that? There's one in your nose. Can you feel it?

John Carlson and Seth Jones are better than Piet and DD right now. Not career but right now

I think Alexeyev pretty much takes Orlov's spot. Best case, I think we have a #2 defenseman with him. Realistically, a solid #3/4 is what we'll get, which is fine considering the minutes we'll need him to play.

This really angers me, but I am just going keep this short and sweet. Doughty isn't going anywhere he is the best defenseman in the entire league that just had his first bad year and even if he was traded to the Caps he definitely aint playing #2 BEHIND CARLSSON. Other way around!

Carlson last 2 years have would have been DD career years....he would more than likely be #2. Carlson has become elite and is a top 5. Both are great players but put some respect on Carlson’s name.

I said right now. DD is more than likely a hall of fame defenseman and his career is much better but again LAST TWO YEARS. Carlson has been the better dman and Jones is = to Carlson

He is not top 5 in the NHL. I have respect for him. I was hoping thwee Kings would sign him in FA awhile back. But to say he is anywhere near Doughty caliber is crazy.

You could retain 50% on both Oshie and Gudas for Doughty with NO retention and LA laughs and hangs up.

I understand where you are coming from bc I hate when leaf fans compare Matthews to Ovechkin. I’m simply saying that recently Carlson has played better. I think DD career high is 65 points JC just put up 70. He’s Elite but prime DD is amazing but recent DD is comparable. That’s not knocking him bc JC is a stud. It would be more insulting if I compared him to Orlov or even djoo ha

Ok thats fair only bc this is the 1st bad season Doughty has had. The reason why JC puts up more points is because he plasy most of his ice time with possibly the best goal scorer of all time and Kuzi. Doughty doesn't have any superstar scorers to play with. He never has. If you look at some of the best defensemen at putting up points Karlsson, Bruns, JC, Krug, Reilly, Hedman they all have great forwards on their team more than one. Other than Kopitar Doughty really doesn't have any. And he still manages to put up 55-65 points a year(except last year) Doughty is also the best defenseman in his own end in the NHL. I get what you are saying. JC did have a better year I just feel like way too many people fail to break down Doughty properly

Someone commented that if Gudas hits UFA, the Caps might need a long term 2RHD next year. So I thought I'd start with the best possible solution, suggest the best possible price, and argue it based on statistics.

Also, I got tired of reading your comments calling Oshie's contract "long" and "expensive," so I thought maybe pretend-trading him for someone with an actual long, expensive contract could help you, personally, see the difference. Yes, Doughty's contract ends at 37, and Oshie's ends at 38, but Doughty just put up 75% of his career-best point total last year, and is owed another $88M over 8 more years. Oshie put up 90% of his career best, last year, and is owed another 27.5M over six years. For what it's worth, each of their career bests is 60 points. That is worth more from an offensive defenseman, because (edit: it's rarer, and also) they usually do a better job with puck possession, but in the Kings' discombobulated mess of a season last year, Doughty set a career high in giveaways, with 105, and only made 23 takeaways. Again, I fully expect Doughty and Oshie to each put up 50 points this coming season and to each look like a great deal relative to their contract. I do not expect either side to want this trade. Washington would rather have Oshie and Gudas because they fit better in the roles they have. LA would rather have the guy who led them to a bunch of championships and won a couple of Olympics for Canada, because if he bounces back, he'll carry their team on his shoulders. I get that. Sometimes. And other times I think Gudas is better. smile
