Description

Dubas is worst GM in Hockey
1st- Marleau deal. Why sign him to 3 years and over pay him. Much better off signing him to 2 year 10 mil per. It would be extreme over pay abut leafs had plenty of cap in those 2 years.
2. Why trade for muzzin when you could of had Montour for same price. Leafs needed RHD not LHD. Montour is younger and will be RFA.
3. Tavares is a great player but not needed. Kadri could easily play 2c and produce 70 points 30 goals with marner for 1/3 of the cost.
4. why sign Mathews to 5 year deal just so he could walk at end. sabres and oilers locked up franchise players for 8. He should slot in between them. 8 for 12? even 8 for 12.5 would be better because at end of 5 years mathews will get 15 per.
5. why on earth would he wait to sign Nylander and marner untill contract was up. HE could of had Marner for 8 x 8.5 like drasitl and Nylander should not have missed half a season.
6. why pay ceci. should of let him walk
7. Zatisev deal was so bad.

To be fair, this is titled "If Dubas was an average GM". Maybe he thinks Dubas is an excellent GM and hence did much better than this?

If mathews wouldnt sign anything over 5, which i highly doubt considering his injury history why do u send him straight to UFA. very dumb. Also you telling me if you offered him biggest contract in NHL history for 8 years he would say NO.

Also, Dumb Dubas said he would not talk to marner or nylander untill after ELC.

You do know that the Marleau and Zaitsev deals were signed by a different GM.

The Tavares contract allowed them to trade Kadri for value...

dubas didnt sign zaitsev or marleau. it was ceci's choice to go to arbitration or not. he could clearly see that if they went to arbitration the leafs wouldnt sign him so he took his QO that ottawa extended. muzzin is better then montour and can play the right side but babcock wouldnt do that. tavares, barrie, and kerfoot is far better then having kadri. what else would there be to spend the cap space on if they didnt get tavares, a couple of guys who would make the same amount but not produce even close to the same amount. you cant negotiate with your franchise player, he gets what he gets and is worth that. if he signs an 8 year deal he can still leave at the end of that as well. if they sign marner to the 9 million he wanted before they got JT nylander would get 8.5 million. 11+7 equals 18, 9+8.5 equals 17.5 so the cap difference is only .5 of a million

You're kinda right about some things, but not about others. Tavares for an excellent UFA addition. You got him for free. If cap is needed then you can trade a player for lower priced assets and picks. That's how good teams acquire talent long term.
Zaitsev deal was good, since the Leafs wanted long term cap freedom. The Leafs couldn't let Ceci walk. The Sens and Ceci had already agreed to a contract, so in effect Ceci was already signed.
Your completely wrong about the Leafs cap situation in the first two Marleau. No way they had an additional 3.5m of cap space to pay him 10m X 2
No way is Kadri a consistent 2C. He scored a lot of point and goals as the LWer on PP.
