without resigning anyone. toronto has 17,673,134 dollars in cape space for next year. you brought up doughty, lets give petro the same deal? that leaves the leafs with: 6,673,134 in cap space. to sign 4 defenseman. add in a 4th center. and a backup goalie. just to ice the full roster. with faulk getting 6.5 x 7 you can already say bye to both muzzin and barrie.

Nahhhh

To everyone who predicted St Louis, raise your hand

You're lying put your hand down, Bokk is a HELLUVA prospect, I'm very happy with this trade, Edmunson fills in the whole Faulk leaves and we move down 2 rounds, this is such a good trade for us, I'm so happy with this

I've never heard Alex Peter Angelo, though, other than from Don Cherry.

His uncle was Frank Pietrangelo. Alex wanted to change the pronunciation of his name. Here's a clip with his uncle in goal...

I know this forum is East coast based, but I still find it amusing to see all the people voting Carolina. Among NHL Dmen for past five seasons, Faulk is #7 in Goals, #4 in PPG, #4 in GWG. Faulk>Edmundson, he couldn't hold Faulk's jock strap. The Blues offered Eddy only $2.3M for reason, dude loves the penalty box too. Bokk is a 25th pick that is nothing but 'hope in a bottle' that statistically will not make it in the NHL. As far as raises next season to Stl D, (expecting this to be Bouw's last year) the D's budget will at the most account for 34-38% of the cap. St Louls completely improved their Stanley Cup winning blueline, adding a fourth 10+ goal scorer to the group. I'm really loving this move...

Not a good move for Canes. Edmundson may become new De Haan or van Riemsdyk for them. It is like selling family car for smaller truck.

Edmundson isn't the major piece in this deal, which is why it's a great move. Bokk is one of the best prospects in the world right now

You're looking at the wrong piece, it isn't Edmundson that's the main attraction for Carolina here, it's the German, Dominik Bokk. In the SHL he has some of the bets allround analytics and it one of the most highly touted prospects league wide, this is a move that was made to bolster a young forward core, when the time is right. You talk about Faulks production.... he isn't paid to score, he's paid to defend. He ranks worse in his defensive zone, across his career, than Jack Johnson, Karl Alzner, Cody Ceci, his x_GA is always through the roof. He's not a good *defenceman*, but he's a great producer. And that contract he got was a hell of an overpay

Bokk hasn't proven anything, he might be a bottom six at best so don't get your hopes up too much. As far as the extension, I trust Armstrong's decisions but only time will tell. Either way, that extension has nothing to do with the trade though. Army knew what he was getting in Faulk, and he knows Parayko is our main shutdown RHD, so Blues will be ok wink In the end, you guys got coke-sniffles & a prospect for Faulk.

Bokk is one of the best prospects around the league right now, he's got a 95% chance of being an NHL top 6 winger, we god a good 3rd pairing D man and a change of picks, if Bokk becomes what he's gonna be, Carolina walk away from this trade a FAR better team than St Louis do, and please, enjoy Faulk..... you're gonna hate him so much, not because he's bad but he's so frustrating. He's analytically sh*t all over the ice, and his defence is f*cking horrific. The extension was part of that trade because Armstrong wouldn't make the move without it. Enjoy having an ovverrated D man for one of your best prospects amd a good 3rd pairng D man wink

Wow finally! But why St. Louis? They already have two top four RHD. He'll just be stuck as the third guy again, like he was in Carolina, or like Shattenkirk was in -ironically- St. Louis, or like Myers in Winnipeg. Building a team like that doesn't work, we've seen it before. Looks like a late knee jerk reaction to the rest of the Central getting better.

I think this trade might be more of stopping Winnipeg from getting him then St. Louis actually wanting him. Also gives them more cushion in case Pietrangelo wants a boatload and decides to walk in FA.

This trade makes sense if you consider the excess of both teams and the deficiencies of both teams. The Blues largest hole last year was easily their power play, which Faulk is a specialist at (Your opinion on how effective he is at this is your own). The Hurricanes have an excess of good defense and have a direct upgrade for Faulk in Dougie Hamilton, and he is just begging to be given more power play time to let him run free. They replace the roster spot with Edmonson, but the real value they get back is more quality powerplay time for Dougie, and Bokk. Your opinions on Bokk as a prospect can be whatever but as a European prospect he would fit in with the Hurricanes young core perfectly. The Hurricanes don't have a deficiency on young good European prospects and players, but you really cant have too much a good thing if it costs you nothing to the quality of your defense. And for St Louis, they have an excess of young forward prospects, IE Thomas, Kostin, Blais, Barbishev, and Fabbri, and they are all further along than Bokk, so the Blues are dealing out of their stacked deck. All in all, Hurricanes get good pieces back and give up a piece they don't have a need for, and St Louis fills one of their few real needs while giving up an asset they have lots of. In my eyes a real "win win trade" with potential bigger wins for either team depending on the development of Bokk or the effectiveness of Faulk in St Louis's system.

This is looking more and more like a steal.

Not because Faulk flopped (no one could’ve predicted that)

But Bokk looks amazing
