Excellent deal for both teams. Bokk is supposed to be a solid prospect but the Blues are already top heavy with forward prospects. Faulk is going to help this deal for several years to come. Really good trade for both teams. Edmundson wasn't going to stick around with the club from what I've heard.

they gave him a 6.5 x 7 extension. thats not a 3rd line role. hes behind parayko and petro.
Interesting deal. Faulk for Bokk and Edmundson may be an overpayment, but I don't find Edmundson to be that great and Bokk is still in Sweden so the whole "North American" ice thing is still unknown for the time being. Intrigued to see how this goes.
Umm what? Trading a 1st round player who I'm told is still a good prospect for an overrated Faulk AND giving him a large extension?!?
Are they not keeping Pietro?

You mean Peter Angelo? That's what Don Cherry calls him.
And why St. Louis? Were they not happy with the team they had? They just won the cup lol.
Afraid of losing Pietrangelo and not having a replacement. As a Blues fan I don't like the deal. Bokk's biggest knock against him was that he doesnt compete enough. Ha great hands, but doesnt put in a lot of effort. Also didn't show much during prospects camp so it doesnt surprise me.

Petro is also a free agent after this season with heavy concern that he will test free agency. He's from Toronto and was even rumored to be on the trade block last year around January. Petro is currently making $6.5 at 29 years old, and will demand a huge pay increase (look at that Doughty $$). It's a possibility that the Blues saw this as an back up plan if Petro decides to leave. Afterall, Toronto only has one defenseman signed past the 2019-20 season and will be able to make Petro a decent contract offer.

leafs will have about 15 million in cap available, and about half of that will be going to dermott and probably an extension for muzzin. unless pietrangelo really wants to go to toronto i don't think they'll offer him.

without resigning anyone. toronto has 17,673,134 dollars in cape space for next year. you brought up doughty, lets give petro the same deal? that leaves the leafs with: 6,673,134 in cap space. to sign 4 defenseman. add in a 4th center. and a backup goalie. just to ice the full roster. with faulk getting 6.5 x 7 you can already say bye to both muzzin and barrie.

Just throwing out the hypothetical scenario. Toronto has been careless with contracts lately so it's not out of their wheelhouse to do something like that. This also doesn't factor in the possibility of the cap going up (even so, it won't be significant but still). Anything is possible.
As it stands, the Blues pairings on defense are pretty stacked. I like this trade for both teams, Faulk wanted out of Carolina and they got a nice prospect in return. The Blues already have Kostin and Kyrou coming up very soon to add to their already young lower line core of Blais, Barbashev, Thomas, Sanford etc.
