While I'll agree that Laine has a higher ceiling, I don't think he is a good fit for the Leafs. Matthews is better known for his ability to make space and his shot release not setting up a goal scorer (Laine).
While Nylander does have a good shot, he is better at setting up a at for Matthews. Having this pass ability player would work better to the Leafs advantage.

Unless they could switch the lines up and find a similar skillset to Nylander for less, I wouldn't even begin to dream of this scenario

I'm not sure Laine has a higher ceiling. He is a lure goal scorer but still wouldn't be the best on the team and Nylander has so many more tools that I'd say his ceiling is higher.

Other than scoring, Laine is a flat out liability.

In his contract year he had his worst year production wise and was a -24 on one of the best teams in the West. Looking forward I think Nylander has a higher ceiling.

Ian Scott has high ceiling I mean how could he not after amazing season. Leafs should not trade their goalie prospects.

If Laine actually wants to stay in Winnipeg. Which I don't think he does, judging by his comments.

Full disclosure, I don't think this would be a good move for the Leafs and tend to agree with @Sammy_T that Nylander is a better player for the Leafs at this time. Someone suggested Nylander for Laine on another forum and I was wondering what that would look like.

If Laine was seeking 2 x 6 he'd already be resigned by now. He wants at least 7 x 9.5 so he's not signing for that garbage.
