Description
Dobson - He has the size , elite skating ability and IQ to be a regular in the NHL this season. Arthur staple (from the Athletic) said it best : “you’ve got 19 year olds making big impacts on good defenses (McAvoy, heiskanen) , so this is a different era for NHL defenseman. Sticking him back in junior only delays the transition another year and there’s injury risk, boredom risk etc. You have a young guy with that sort of makeup, you get the growing pains out of the way sooner than later.”
I have no doubt he’ll make the team out of camp and after a few months he’ll move up to the 2nd pairing with Devon toews.

Thomas Hickey: He will be moved before opening night to make room for Dobson.

Nick leddy : IMO leddy will be moved during the season to a team dealing with injuries and desperate for a top 4 D.

Wahlstrom : I think he’ll light it up in the AHL and earn a call up

Leddy, if traded, will be traded for a top 6 forward. The Islanders don’t need anymore prospects

I don’t think at this point he’ll fetch that return - but we’ll see

I can see MTL making a play for Leddy as the season approaches. They were in on Gardiner and, despite what MTL fans will say, Chiarot is not the answer to their lack of a Top pairing LHD. I can see a Leddy for Tatar swap working out for both teams.

I can also see WPG being interested, as they can use a LHD to play on the 2nd pairing behind Morrissey. I can see Leddy being used as a main piece in a package for Laine, Connor or Ehlers... if one of them gets moved once the RFA situations with Laine and Connor get resolved.

I could see a leddy for Tatar swap with the isles adding a mid round pick. The problem with leddy is the last two years his play is just above replacement level - he’s still a great skating puck moving defenseman but he really sh*t the bed the last two seasons.

I don’t think WPG would want leddy, but if they did and isles wanted one of those 3 in return, wahlstrom and picks would have to be involved.

If anything, MTL would need to add the pick as, despite what most think, Leddy has NOT **** the bed the last 2 seasons. It's amazing to me how many people on here can't grasp the two different systems the Isles have used and the direct correlation they have had on Nick Leddy's numbers. It boils down to one thing... if it wasn't for the emergence of Devon Toews and the Progress of both Adam Pelech and Sebastian Aho, under no circumstances would the Islanders be looking to move Leddy. In fact, they would be slotting him as the #1 or #2 LHD on the team... the fact that people can't grasp this is astonishing to me....

As for WPG, that's why I said he would be the "main piece in a package for Laine, Connors or Ehlers"

To be fair, Doug weight system (or lack of) was terrible for leddy - did he improve last season? Yes but his underlying metrics are still brutal. Leddys strengths are his first pass, skating , and zone entries. He still seemed lost in his own zone and the advanced statistics verify that. He’s still a 2nd pairing D man on most teams, I’m just saying he hasn’t been good the last two seasons. Last season Barry trotz implemented a defense 1st system and while it’s understandable that his offensive numbers suffered, his defense metrics were just as bad.

Yes, because he was forced to focus on something he's never been forced to focus on before... his defense. Leddy has always been an Okay defenseman who put up plus Offensive numbers. Under Weight his focus, as was the rest of the team, was solely on Offense, hence why the Isles were the worst defensive team in the league. Under Trotz Leddy, as well as the rest of the Isles, was told to focus on D and don't worry about offensive numbers... Leddy had to learn a whole new system AND adapt his game to primarily focus on something he's never been told to do before.

It's certainly more reasonable to think his numbers were bad because he was changing his ENTIRE style of play for the first time probably in his career than it is to think he's suddenly declining at the age of 28. This is what happens when you focus solely on metrics and numbers, you completely eliminate things like player mindset, system and other outlying factors that all take a toll on a players performance and you end up missing the bigger picture.
