Giving up 1st round picks is the last thing the ducks need to do. God knows where they will be picking this year.

Steel, Jones, Larsson and Lundestrom, plus the unsigned Tracey and Zegras, plus second-round picks Comtois, Morand, Groulx and Lacombe -- we have enough high draft picks in the system approaching maturity that the cost of adding a star scorer like Laine or Tkachuk is well worth the investment. Just ask the Kings if they wouldn't mind trading Gabe Vilardi for half of Kyle Connor.

But I’d rather have Lafreniere than and of the rfa’s about to get offer sheeted. The team is still a couple years away from being a legit contender. Even with Tkachuk on the team, Anaheim getting a lottery pick is still likely. That defense and fourth line are absolute dumpster fires. Even the middle 6 isn’t the greatest. Rakell is the only thing boosting the 2nd line and Silfverberg is what boosts the 3rd line. Sure Steel and Terry should be solid but are unknown right now. They are still young and going to have growing pains.

Tkachuk-Getzlaf-Sprong
Rakell-Steel-Silfverberg
Comtois-Henrique-Kase
Ritchie-Rowney-Terry

is a pretty good lineup without any weakness on the fourth line. It's clearly a team that would contend for a playoff slot.

The only element that keeps this team from being a contender is the right side of the defense.

Passing on Tkachuk at that price would be foolish.

what horse crap. They finished in 8th place last year, and lets be honest, I don't expect no different this year.
They could end up with a top 5 pick this year.

You must be a Rhodes Scholar.

Calling another writer's opinion that adding Matthew Tkachuk would make this team a playoff contender "horse crap" reveals your level of intelligence and your level of hockey insight far better than anything I could say.

Unfortunately for the Flames, I think that would probably work. Not only should management have to strongly consider whether he's worth 2M more than Aho as a LW'er, I think they also would have a hard time coming up with 10.5M in cap space for him this year unless they can dump Frolik for picks or a prospect.

I'd prefer to go after Carlo for less - surely BOS doesn't match 5 x $6.25M contract for him. That would only leave them with 2M for McAvoy.

We're not guaranteed to get Lafreniere, so why even think about it like that. Unless Eakins is a complete flop, which I doubt, we'd be more than good enough to be contending for a playoff spot with Tkachuk in the line-up. People's perception of the Ducks has been fogged by the RC effect. The D needs work, but they're not that bad.. and we have our saving grace Gibson in net. The few games in which GMBM was headcoach proved that this team, even with a bunch of kids in it, can play good hockey.

Surely we'd have to move Rakell for a RD? Comtois is going to be money. I think offersheeting Carlo makes much more sense.

Note that there's enough room here to do both.

But yes, I think it would be better to offer-sheet Carlo rather than pie-in-the-sky for a big expensive forward.

Tkachuk doesn't make this team a playoff team. If anything it leaves them stranded in mediocrity. The 1C is 34 years old and lost steps. This team is in trouble. Giving up back to back 1st round picks is going to cost you more talent than you are getting in. Period. And for what. This team has no chance in hell of winning anything.
This is dumb move. You don't need to be a "Rhodes Scholar" to figure that out.

Haven't watched the team very closely. Are you kidding me, you finish last in the NHL last year with out your goalie. The whole team was awful in front of him last year. They haven't changed that much.

Thank you for proven my point. "They haven't changed that much"...... hahahahahaha! RC is gone and he was the problem. We improved immediately after he was fired and with GMBM behind the bench. Go and do some reading before you come here looking like a fool. LMFAO! Another stat-watcher bites the dust.

D'ya think this troll will have the intellectual honesty to be embarrassed if his beloved Penguins finish behind the Ducks this season? Naah.

Hmm, Tkachuk, I doubt it...

But, I suspect that either Hamonic or Brodie could be acquired for a minimal cost. Doing so would allow CGY to clear enough enough cap space to sign Tkachuk themselves, which, I assume, has to be priority #1 for the club
