whats wrong with it? I dont watch many LAK games but based on his stats it seems like he has been very good the last 2 years. Its an inexpensive contract for a relatively short term. Whats not to like?

He's been very inconsistent. Last season was his only decent season. We have him for another year at around 600k then this contract. Which means we have him for another 3 years... This obviously means Quick is gone within a year or to because Petersens contract is a one way NHL contract after this season. I would have much rather signer Kuemper in FA than keep Campbell. This signing is basically saying that Petersen and Campbell are our future goaltenders.

fair enough. But I dont think Kuemper is much of an upgrade over Campbell. Hes a bit younger and will likely have a lower cap hit than Kuemper. If LAK is going to rebuild/retool for the next few years, is trading Quick and having a Petersen/Campbell duo really that bad?

Doesn’t make sense. Cal Peterson is poised to take the starting role and you can’t waive or trade Quick.

I think this was intended to dangle two quality goaltenders to Seattle at the expansion draft. If the Kings traded Campbell and Seattle took Quick, they'd be without a quality backup to Petersen in 2021. If the Kings trade Quick, Campbell will likely get selected, and they'd again be without a duo of solid goaltenders. This way, the Kings can have 3 quality goaltenders going into the expansion draft, and still have two quality goaltenders coming out the other side.

Will be interesting to see what they do in 2020-21. They'll have 3 goaltenders on the roster. Not sure what they'll do. The Islanders carried three guys for a while, perhaps LA will too.

Signing Kovalchuk bad move, over paying for everyone on their roster for to much term bad move, drafting Kupari over Merkley and Miller bad move, bringing in Todd Mclellan horrible move just ask Sharks fans

Are you brain dead? Do you know anything about Merkley? Even his junior team don't want him because he is a problem. Attitude mostly. He's also very bad defensively. Kupari is going to be a good top 6 winger in the NHL in a year or two. Nothing wrong with that pick. Kovalchuk is fine. He's going to do way better this season. Last season was not his fault and considering the henders he had that were out of his control he did pretty damn good. I agree it was dumb of Blake and Luc to bring Kovi in thinking that was all we needed to fix our scoring problems. Blake is dumb we can agree that he hasn't done very good, but to say that this was smart we disagree. This is another dumb thing by Blake.

Why can't they trade Quick?

Quicks contract isnt very attractive, especially when he cant stay healthy. His numbers last year were awful. At 33- they should let him go, hope that one of Peterson or Campbell can step up. Campbells contract is pretty good value for a backup with decent numbers. Playing in front of that defense cant be easy (and its only going to look worse without Muzzin for the whole year).

He's the Kings #1 Goalie right now, right? Has to be, at least based on the numbers.

People forget that at the press conference announcing Kovalchuk's signing Blake stated that he hoped for 20 goals from Kovi. Kovalchuk's season extrapolates to exactly that; too bad the idiot Desjardins held him out of about a quarter of the games and limited his ice time in many others.

Outside of last season (where he averaged a 0.928 SV% over 31 games) he's only played SEVEN NHL games.

And in those 7 NHL games (prior to last season) ... he averaged a 0.937 SV% ... giving him a 0.930 SV% on his 38 game NHL career.

So would you mind explaining why you think he's been "very inconsistent"?

And if you'd like a frame of reference that explains just how ridiculous you sound:

The Oilers gave Mikko Koskinen a $4,500,000 cap-hit for 3 years ... when he had a 0.906 SV% over a 29 game NHL career.

you don't let a quality tender leave. this is a good signing. This kid can play at the NHL level, be it a back up or even a starter.

Quick isn't hard to move, he can still play.

His ability is below league average and his cap and term are just under Lucic numbers. Goalies don’t fetch a lot in general let alone sub-par goaltenders with injury history on the bad side of 30.
