He probably would have signed with the leafs if marner had signed. Dubas choosing Ceci > Gardiner - 0.45 mil in cap space???

We don't know for sure, but IMO the Sens had already made a deal with Ceci...verbally to extend him for one year. Then in the next few days the Sens and Leafs made the trade. Sens would not agree to make the trade to take Zaitsev unless Ceci was going to the Leafs. Leafs couldn't rescind verbal agreement contract that was in place.
Now I think Carolina could good value with 4m X 4 deal with Gardiner. But given the choice as a Leaf, would I want to resign Gardiner to that contract? Maybe it was time to move on from Gardiner...not so much for this year but for the following three seasons.

Sorry, but I don't get excited about Corsi like others. What I do know is that when the games matter (the playoffs) Gardiner is a no show and Boston has exploited his poor defensive play the last two years.

Tbh when the games matter the Leafs are a no show, not just Gardiner.

Hey buddy, just chill out! grimace
Everyone, who watches a lot of hockey here knows, that Gardiner's have some leaks in the defensive part of his game nod
If somebody thinks the opposite, you can't ever convince him wink
The contract is still good though, no question about that. If they sign him for 6 million $, i would vote no. But for 4 million $, it's a good contract.

Anyways, i have a legit question to you:

What's your honest opinion on the Tampa Bay Lightning defense next year?
Come playoff time, will you be wondering a little bit about how you going to beat our D? I need an outsider opinion, cause im way too biased...(i already put my team in the cup finals, before season started... hahaha happy ...)
We play a lot vs your team over the years, so you must have an idea how it feels to play vs our defense cool

I can't say I see enough Tampa games, but just looking at who they have. Its a solid defense, with a guy whose been a Norris finalist 3 straight years. McDonagh had maybe one of his best seasons and he's a major shot blocker. Sergachev is a kid I think gets forgotten about with other fans because of some of the younger d-men coming into the league at such high picks. Shattenkirk as a 3rd pairing PP specialist is great for Tampa and honestly the only team that made sense for Shatt.

Its a tough defense. On paper it looks like they can play physical, block shots and still put it in the other teams net.

Jesus Canes defense just went from stacked to legendarily good

I'm just throwing this out there, but is Gardiner really that much better than say, Shattenkirk? I think TBL got the steal of the summer for D's.
