An outside look of CGY line-up - am I far off

Description
Capitals is my team, but what fun is it to be interested in the league if you don't have a decent idea of your opponents?

This is my outside look for the Calgary line-up. Is it reasonable or do you - fans of the team - see other likely line combinations or pairings at defense? Who's got that special chemistry with another players etc.

And yes, I did assume both Tkachuk and Mangiapane will re-sign before puck drop, but I only used a one year contract for the sake of putting them in there.

I see Czarnik is listed as a winger, but wasn't he originally a center?

Czarnik's not a center, Jankowski is. Not nearly enough for Tkachuck. Valimaki is put at least until playoffs (probably all year) so put him in LTIR. If DSP makes the team, which he probably will, Frolik will be traded. But this all depends on if someone can step up to 2RW. Interesting defense pairings ive cinsidered those myself as well

I figured Tkachuk wouldn't get paid more than Monahan or Gaudreau, but on the other hand, those contract were signed a few years ago. So yeah, you are probably right about that.
Ah, didn't know it was that bad for Valimaki.

Thanks for your input!

Tkachuk would get more than that, even on a one year deal so this team probably isn't cap compliant.

As for comments on your actual team, I think what you've done with the D pairs is interesting and something I'd like to see them try during preseason. I think it will probably end up being what worked well for most of the year last season though:
Gio - Brodie
Hanifin - Hamonic
Kylington - Andersson

Czarnik is a winger and played RW and LW at various points last season. I don't think he'd cut it as a center. My expectation is that Frolik will be a cap casualty that's moved to make room for Tkachuk's deal and they hope that Bennett continues his strong play from the playoffs on the shutdown line. I think they pair Mangiapane with Jankowski to start the season (they were good together in the AHL) and put Ryan & Lucic together given Peters' comments about Lucic's best seasons being with a RH centre and they'll hope one of Dube or Lucic can play on the off-wing.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Bennett
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Czarnik
Lucic/Dube - Ryan - Lucic/Dube

I think Dube will spend a decent portuon od the year in Stockton tbh and we wil lsign DSP to play with Mangiapane and Janikowski. Czarnik had great chemistry with Ryan lasy year and will probably stay there

I personally think Dube is ready for NHL minutes as he was over a PPG in the AHL. I agree that Czarnik & Ryan can play on the same line, but would need Lucic or Bennett there to make some room out there for them as they are smaller guys. Another look I'd be interested in them trying is shifting Ryan up with either Backlund and Tkachuk (or even with Mangiapane and Jankowski as the RW) to have two centers on a line that may do some of the heavy lifting from the D-zone:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm (obvious top offensive line)
Tkachuk - Backlund - Ryan (matches against the opponents best line, more D-zone starts)
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Bennett (a good two way line with a cycle game)
Lucic - Dube - Czarnik (two smaller skilled guys with a brute to make space and crash the net for rebounds/screens)

Clayton Keller just signed with Arizona for a cap hit of 7.15 over 8 years, 2 years into the NHL with points of 65 and 47 respectively, 24 PM and -21 last year. Granted on a much worse team than Calgary, these number wilt under Tkachuks:
2018 - 49 points, 61 PM, -1, top 10 in league for drawing penalties etc.
2019 - 77 points, 62 PM, +14, again agitator along with all of this.
The points are close but trending in opposite directions, and overall Tkachuk fills in so much more. There is no way he and his agent go for any long term contract under 8.5 considering Keller and others as comparison thus far. I have to admit that other than a few games and watching a bit of his junior games, I don't know enough about Keller to be totally competent here, but pretty sure you can't argue Tkachuk is much more valuable than Keller. I am trying to not be a homer but the numbers don't lie and he has to sign for more than this, I have to think by at the very least min. 500 G more on a short term, 1 mill more on a long term. Plus 8-9 mill in 5 years is going to be a huge bargain if the salary cap keeps trending up and players salaries follow along. IMO all told. Cheers,
D

I definitely would not say arizona is a much worse team they struggled with injuries all year last year and barely missed playoffs
