Description

Supposedly the Wings and Sabres have had talks about Risto and Mantha. Would likely be a multi-player deal.

My guess is that in addition to Risto, Buffalo would want a forward or D prospect, plus maybe a bottom 6 forward. Wings would probably want a younger 3rd or 4th line forward or a D prospect.

Personally, I don't love the idea. I'm not sold that Risto is a true #1 D and while Mantha's far from perfect, he and his line did finish the season strong. Also, without Mantha, our bottom 6 looks pretty brutal...

If the Wings are truly willing to part with Mantha, does Buffalo take this deal?

Are you serious? They better take that deal. Mantha > Risto by a million miles. Also Rasmus > Tage too. This is a clear win for BUF and would be idiotic for DET to do. Can't see Yzerman allowing this.

I didn't see much of him during the season but at the worlds Mantha looked really good. I think he will get better and trading him for risto would be a mistake

Don't know if he will get better but he may see increased production with more ice time and better health.

Looking at Buffalo's cap situation again, Wings might get asked to take on a bit more salary, even with Hunwick's injury.

So maybe Mantha and a lower level propect for Risto, Thompson and a Scandella or equivalent player on an expiring deal?

I'm just spit-balling here. As i said, i don;t love this idea. I feel like Risto would be an upgrade on D only because our D is so god awful

Risto would be DETs 3rd best RHD if this trade happens so it honestly makes no sense for DET. I am well known for being overly critical of Risto. With that said he can be valuable to certain teams but DET really isn't one of those teams.

Even as sad as our D core is, this is probably true. Green is was injured most of last year, but when healthy he's still a positive contributor. Hronek is getting better, so by the end of the year I could believe that he's be above Risto on the depth charts. Green is likely gone after this year though, so we'd have an opening at #2 assuming Hronek moves up....

I agree though, I don't think this is the right move for Det even if they only send Mantha and get 1-2 additional players back

This was a rumor about 2 weks ago, noticed nothing on the web. Eklund was making up stuff as usual. Nothing to this proposed trade.

And if we did this trade Wings are not taking on salary or dumps, Yzerman is not that dumb.

The production is not sustainable but the Larkin Mantha duo makes that LW spot interchangeable.

Nah we know what Mantha is already too and that is of significantly more value than Risto.
