Subban is a cancer. Weber is the better leader and an equal player. His contract absolutely sucks but that makes the trade even.

I think it turned out good for both, or at least for Montreal. But yeah, Subban's played great too. Good trade in the end i think.

Subban in Montreal was better than Weber in Montreal.
Weber in Nashville was better than Subban in Nashville.
All said in done, this is a case of neither team should have done it because it made them both worse.

I don't think Subban was better than Weber. The only thing Subban had going for him was his offensive game. Weber is a defensive defensemen that happens to be putting up close to PK Subban numbers.

The PK Subban that was traded away was a parenial all star with crazy high offensive output. He was also in his prime and would likely still be right now if he wasn't traded. The Weber they got was past his prime and had early struggles with the team when they were actually trying to be competitive. And Weber is doing good right now, but Subban was putting up those fantastic offensive numbers in a lower scoring time than today where Weber is starting to score. Prime Subban was significantly better than current Weber. Prime Weber was significantly better than prime Subban but that's not what Montreal got. I think cooler heads should have prevailed and both teams would have been better off if they didn't do anything.

The general consensus was dead wrong on this one. Any way you spin it, Montreal has gotten the better end of the deal here. After PK's first season in Nashville, he's been on a harsh decline, with him now playing like a third pairing guy at best. At the very least, Nashville can be thankful that they moved PK when they did. Now they don't have either contract on the books, which is the only positive Nashville can take away from this right now.

The O'Reilly trade?

O’Reilly wasn’t as big of a star as Weber was at the time of the trade, and he was traded for spare parts rather than a former Norris winner. Plus everyone expected ROR might move, while no one ever considered that Weber could be traded.

It involved on of the big market clubs is one of the reasons it's still talked about so frequently. And the fact that Subban was traded again kinda refreshed it. But still. The only trade I can think of that comes close is the Duchene, Avs-Pred-Sens deal. No as huge one for one style but just the magnitude and pieces that are still moving from it, it's still worth a mention.

At the time it wasn't spare parts. Every player Buffalo got back was decent players or prospects with good potential.
