Description
Assuming the Kings don't win the lottery next summer and draft Lafreniere. If they do, he'll be on this roster.

Salaries given to free agents aren't meant to be realistic. Cap space won't be an issue for the Kings in the near future, so it's not important. This is just to give an idea of what the roster makeup will look like.

Doughty will not be mentoring 6 defensemen himself. They will keep Martinez or sign another experienced defenseman via free agency. They can't and won't ask that of him. Other than that and a few RFA salary disagreements(I read your bio) it all looks good ?

I think they should trade Quick before he can be taken in the expansion draft. He could bring back a 1st with prospects if traded to a team desperate for a starter.

By 2021, Walker will have 3 NHL seasons under his belt. Clague is likely to crack the lineup this year, so he will have 2 himself. Bjornfot is apparently a natural leader and very mature for his age, so he shouldn't need much mentoring. They could bring in an aging veteran guy at 2RD/3RD if they really wanted to, but I don't think that's really necessary. I think peer mentoring is overrated. That's what coaches are for.

I think they should keep Quick and leave him unprotected in order to entice Seattle to take him over a younger, more promising option like Brickley or Roy. Unless he has a Vezina caliber outing this season, I don't think you'll get anything near a 1st + a prospect for him. There are other quality starting goaltender options that are younger and on less risky contracts that teams would consider before giving up a haul of that size for an aging goaltender coming off a subpar season.

I personally don't see Walker or Roy being Kings NHL defenseman. I could be wrong. It seemed like they were filling a temp role for the kings blue line. I feel like Clague, Anderson, and Bjornfot will take their spot. I still don't think Martinez is going anywhere anytime soon unless it's to Seattle. I dont think Clague will be in the NHL this season. Maybe briefly. I still think he needs more time and development. He is still weak defensively in some areas.

We don't agree on Quick value so I guess we will seen what happens.

Walker and Roy are both right defensemen, while the guys you mentioned are all left defensemen. Doughty and Durzi I think are guaranteed to be the future on the right, but they still need another guy. Unless LaDue finally can get his **** together, I think one of Walker or Roy will be on the roster for at least the next few years, unless the Kings can find someone via trade or free agency.

Blake has said that Clague was due for a call-up last season, but was injured down the stretch. They're very happy with his game. I don't think he'll start the season in the NHL, but I do think he'll finish the season on the Kings. At least one of Martinez or Forbort will be moved before the trade deadline, and Clague will likely be the replacement. I think there's a 50% chance that Martinez is moved by the deadline this coming season, and a 90% chance that he's moved by the deadline in 2021.

I love Jonathan Quick. He's a guaranteed Hall of Famer, will have his jersey retired by the Kings, and will likely get a statue outside of Staples Center along with Kopitar, Brown, and Doughty. However, he's on the back-end of a long-term contract, has had injury issues, and just came off the worst season of his career. If there are several goaltender injuries around the league that shallow out the goaltender market and create an increased level of demand, I could see someone paying a premium for Quick if he has a strong start to the season. Short of that, I don't think he'll get moved. Jon Rosen confirmed there's not a market for him right now, and I think the Kings wouldn't insult him by adding a sweetener to get rid of him. My guess is that he'll be around until 2021.

Clague can play the right side two. I think the Kings will need to get a 2nd pair RHD in Free Agency either this coming one or next one.
Bjornfot Doughty
Anderson Petrangelo(example)
Clague Martinez

Or like you are saying
Bjornfot Doughty
Anderson Petrangelo(example)
Clauge Walker/Roy

That 3rd pair will have a hard time adapting to the NHL together. You don't place a new guy on the same line with a new guy. Even if it's a season from now.

Even worse:
Bjornfot Doughty
Anderson Roy
Clague Walker

Where do you have Durzi slotted? He probably won't make the NHL this season, but he'll likely get a call-up in 2020-21 and finish the season with the Kings. It's unclear if he'll be a bottom pairing or 2nd pairing guy just yet, but he looks like a promising addition to the blue line.
