Explications
Scott Darling signed to a PTO.
Once Ian Cole returns I expect one of the many Left handed Defenseman to be traded away or just buried/waived.
Connor Timmins might be ready at training camp but I feel like there are far too many rookies on that defense, and especially having to play multiple of them together.

Timmins is certainly not ready. After all he has been through and not playing hockey for so long the worst thing you could do is throw him in the lineup.

I will be direct. No, it's not since reason #1: We're simply not trading Carlo.

Meloche will be what, top6 at best?
We don't need Calvert at all, we have enough options for our bottom 6
lol at the 3rd; worse is that COL makes playoffs
(this is the price for like 1/3 if not 1/4 of Carlo)

We don't move Carlo unless the return would be... an overpayment to get him.
Also, Carlo is a top4 D and is perfect for our second pair; replace McAvoy if injured on the first.
Leading to: $2,75M is way too low, even on a bridge deal. On a 6Y deal, he can get $4,25M so there's that.

Don't acquire him if it's to play on the 3rd pair, he's a legit 1st pair D. Monster defensively in the playoffs (and the regular season).

Remember Carlo for Landeskog few years ago? I would still not do that trade but that's personal opinion.

So forget this, just play Connauton there until Cole is back.

I don’t think that would get Carlo from the bruins. I love meloche but he doesn’t have the ceiling as Carlo so a 4th liner like Calvert doesn’t make up the difference then

I think Timmins would have to be moved for this to happen and that’s if he shows he’s back to old self being healthy again.

If Timmins healthy there’s no point for the avs to do the move then

I agree they shouldn’t rush him at all but the org hype for Timmins is stilll a real thing, if he plays well during pre season it wouldn’t shock me if he’s on the team based on how much bednar loves him and how high Sakic is on him

Meloche projects to be at least top 4 and considering Carlo would likely sign a 3-4 year deal that pick would become a 2nd which Don Sweeney has proven to be able to do damage with (specifically Brandon Carlo Sticking Out Tongue )
But I didn't realize Carlo was apparently that good, cuz I saw him playing 3rd pairing minutes for Boston. Realistically he could probably play 2nd pairing but I doubt Bednar plays Johnson 3rd pairing and definitely not Makar
Also neither Connauton nor Cole play the right side lol

Carlo is a damn good defender way underrated. He was a brick in this stanley cup run. If boston move him they will ask at least for byram. He does so many thing well he’s a miniature chara but with more fluid skating. I think is offensive game will come later like chara due to is size but still he was amazing in the playoff

His lower was 16:29 in G4 STL
Lower in reg. was 16:35

He can play 22-24 mins and that's why I said he can replace McAvoy on the first pair, sometimes. He was the top pairing RD in '16-17 so

In that case ya better hope Sweeney is able to get rid of that Backes contract or they're gonna lose one of them! wink

I'd take Timmins over Meloche any day. Even with injury history.

There's no question the Bruins are going to struggle to sign both Carlo & McAvoy unless they can dump Backes (or another contract) but that offer isn't going to cut it.

Hypothetically and just to at least show something of Carlo's value, the Avs could offer Kaut plus a first and if it isn't taken they offer sheet Carlo, (and that's IF they could trade with the Panthers to get their own third back in this scenario). So let's just say the Panthers accept TOR's 3rd & their own 6th for the Avs to regain their own third. Then let's just say the Avs offer sheet Carlo at 4.5 over 7 (6.3 AAV). The Bruins will struggle to match AND keep McAvoy without a cap dump but they'd almost certainly try to arrange that cap dump PDQ. Compensation is a first and a third (which would also leave the Avs with no pick in the first three rounds of the draft but we'll disregard that for now). So the trade (Kaut plus a first) starts to look a better option to Boston but I suspect the Bruins would still turn it down. A second at best plus a bottom six grinder (much as I love Calvert) plus a B level prospect with probably a ceiling of second D pairing, more likely a third pairing D, isn't going to get it done.
