Staal is owed 8.2 Million in real dollars for the last 2 years of his deal. He's been paid this years 1 million dollar signing bonus so hes owed 7.2 million, 4 this years & 3.2 next year.
With NYR eating 1/2 of the AAV for the next 2 years that brings his Cap hit down to 2.850 with the real dollars paid at
2019-20 = 1.150 million
2020-21 = 1.350 million

Calgary losing Valimaki for the season has them with not a lot of experienced depth on the left side.
They are going to have to open thier wallets to pay Matthew Tkachuk, & Frolik with no dollars retained can get them some of the flexibility. It saves them 1.45 million this year.
