I highly doubt it, though I’ve seen crazier things. It’s not like the pick compensation would be enough on its own to make up for losing one of your top wingers.

That's a massive overpay for Laine and you better hope he returns to his 40+ goal seasons for that price tag. Having said that, I'd rather submit this kind of OS for him than trade core players to get him. Rumors suggest the ask for Laine (who apparently wants out of WPG) is a NHL D-man and a Top prospect... have to think WPG asks for Pulock or Dobson, or both in a deal for Laine, which the Isles should NOT do.

As for would WPG do it, the pick compensation isn't nearly what Laine is worth, but at the same time, WPG doesn't really have the CAP flexibility to match it AND sign Connor. Because, as someone else mentioned, if WPG matches the Isles could just offer the same deal for Connor.

For the Isles, most of those picks can be recouped by trading Leddy (at least one of the 1sts and a 2nd or 3rd) and Hickey (3rd/4th round pick). If I'm Lou and I can't work out a deal with WPG AND the Isles really aren't going to OS Marner, than Laine is the guy I'd go for.
