I love how Tanev hasn't played a game in a pens jersey yet and is still hated. I get his contract is absurd for what he has done but he's already getting run out of town.

Honestly, if he gels with say Sid/Geno I see him putting up 20 goals + offering great PK and 2 way play. Worth it if it turns out like that!

You're not totally wrong, but you're forgetting the term on his deal. If he was signed for < 3 years, sure, maybe he hits 20 goals purely because he plays with Crosby or Malkin, and if he doesn't then it's over in a couple years anyway. GMJR signed him for 6 mfing years, and idk about you but I think it would've been a way better investment to sign a guy who can produce when he's not playing with two of the best centers of the cap era. Brandon Tanev shouldn't have been signed by this team, and even if they had to do it, it definitely shouldn't have been for 6 years.

I like Tanev.... just not at 3.5m for 6 years.... he is a decent bottom six guy. 2m for 2 years..... all day long. Or give him 3.5m for 1-2 years max.

Same thing w JJ.... I like him as a 6-7 defender.... but at 1-2m for 1-2 years.

PH.... 2-3 year contract max.... I would have done 6m for 2 years. Nothing more... he is a pp specialist... but JG is better and younger.

In the cap era you cant make egregious mistakes like GMJR has made in the last couple years. David Steckel robbed Sid of a few years of his prime, Halak robbed us one year, MAF meltdowns in the playoffs, HCMJ, and now an inept GM....
We only have three cups because we have 2 generational talents at center to do the heavy lifting, and quite a bit of luck.

Tanev is a solid role player who in my opinion is better than Sheary. However I’m just not sure if the Penguins really needed him.
