We absolutely do not need to pay second round picks to get rid of one year of 3 M or so cap hit for guys that are still decent players. Especially not when we still have all this cap room even after what you have done here!!
I disagree with you that the aging contracts will hold us back, the only problem they create is a lack of roster spots. If push comes to shove, we easily have the cap room to bury them and make way for roster spots though.
Also we aren't buying out Dekeyser, probably not Nielsen either.

There are a couple of things that someone who doesn't follow the Wings closely probably wouldn't pick up on.
Yzerman went out and signed Filppula because he is responsible in the defensive end and he trusts him. Plus from what I understand he wants to move AA to the wing where he has less defensive responsibilities and it would free him up to score more. This is what I think the line would look like AA - Filppula - Hirose. I don't see Filppula being traded at all.
Helm is still one of the faster guys in the league plus he has only 2yrs left. If the Wings pay another team to take a player it would be Abdelkader first and Neilson second both are more expensive and have more years left on their contracts. Plus neither of those contracts are long or expensive enough to warrant a 2nd rd pick.

how the hell is Madison bowey getting 5 million dollars hes not even going to get resigned at this point. hes a 7th defenseman. plus mantha has to score 40 goals and 85 pts this season to even get close to that 7.5 million and thats not gonna happen. I dont get the trades either. your giving away 2 2nd rounders to get guys gone that we dont need to move. fillpula can still play and yeah helm is no good but why trade picks to have the money you save just sit on the cap unused. same with the buy outs there is no reason to do it. neilson is overpaid but a decent 3rd line center and dekeyser is a second pair guy whos totally miscast on this team since our defense blows.

Hronek would be the last RHD to be scratched, Kid has far too much talent.
