Someone please offer sheet Marner

Description
I don't think an offer sheet will come at this point in the off-season. I don't think Marner would sign one anyway, he wants to stay in Toronto but he is being greedy. That being said, I would love for someone to give him an offer sheet. 4 first rounders are worth more than Marner IMO. His value is being inflated and his huge jump in stats from last year can primarily be attributed to Tavares joining his line, which is reflected by the fact that most of his points came via assists. He is definitely an elite player, but he should not be getting paid higher than any winger in the league.

I like how there is no one on here saying, JT and Marner both benefited form playing together. Its either bitter Isle fans saying JT wasn't that good and Marner made him better or its Leaf fans saying Marner was completely carried by JT.

Is it not a likelihood that both players are benefiting from having top end talent to play with?

Correct, still have to pay him for his production. Plus he’s led the team in pts the last 2 seasons

I like alot of things about the cap but one thing that I don't is it makes teams and fans evaluate a players value relative to their contract. And in doing that, we kinda forget the whole purpose is to ice the best roster and combos in order to win. JT and Marner are a win/win combo. They're great together and they both benefit from it.

That said, I'm ready for someone to please OS Marner too. This story/narrative needs a new twist..

JT was great on the islanders but he put up 47 goals because he played with marner. Without marner, he likely puts up between 33-38 goals - leafs fans hate on marner because he earned his pay day but they don’t want to pay him what he’s worth.

All his comparables say he's worth 9-9.5 million. Kucherov signed for 9.5 million and put up 130 points, explain how Marner is worth more

Nah. We don't have to pay him the crazy money he's asking for. The Isles can do that and we'll take the 4 firsts. I hear he's really good and worth Mcjesus money AND 4 firsts ! What could possibly go wrong?

Kucherov got 9.5 because there is no state income tax in Florida, same with mark stone. If they signed with any other team they would command 11+

Moulson and Okposo excellent examples how good JT. Anyone who played with him showed great results.
Don't think there will be offer sheet that much as Marner wants.

That would be a fair argument, but Kucherov put up over 30 more points. Even with tax, Marner doesn’t deserve a dime more, let alone 3 million more

*Some leaf fans

I am not concerned with what Marner makes as long as the term is right. I think he'll sign for a similar price as Rantanen and Point, whoever signs first will set the market.

The whole JT only scored 40 + because of Marner is a little off base. I think he helped sure, but this was the first time in JT's career he could be the main goal scrorer on his line, he had a legit top line playmaker to play with. Not a decent top 6 player. JT has a way better supporting cast than he ever had in Long Island and of course he benefits from that. I think if JT was put with 2 shooters, he'd still score 30+ but he'd have 60 assists if those shooters were of equal skill as Marner is.

Islanders don’t want to give 4 1st rd picks for him. Dubas will continue to play this game of chicken with marner (just like he did with nylander and eventually gave in to his commands) and he’ll get what he wants because the leafs are a win now team and can’t afford to have him sit out for long.

I don't know if I believe much of the price tags that are being thrown around. Its mad media speculation. The fact that Point and Rantanen haven't come close to these numbers in any rumours is telling. The TO media is just blasting out drama to make more money.

Marner is a player that waiting for the market to be set, same as Point and Rantanen. Somone is going to blink and set the market, that's it. There is zero things to do or worry about until that happens. Yet, people are going crazy with anticipation, they are angry at Marner for having a season that is good enough to get him a lot of money and angry with him because the speculation machine is pumping out insane rumours that are likely more false than true.

Its all just too much and everyone should settle down.

I love so much how so many people on here think Nylander won. He didn't, he gets paid less than Hayes for crying out loud. After this upcoming season, he's going to be looked at as the best contract in TO. And then all these people who have been ragging on him will have nothing to say. Its going to be glorious.

As for Marner, Dubas I think has him in a perfect spot. His agent is not good at his job and loves his own ego more than reality. He lost with AA in Detroit and Anderson in Columbus and he's going to lose with Marner. Why? Because none of the other guys are likely to hold out so they'll sign before training camp. When they sign, that sets the market and if that comes in under what Marner is demanding, which it almost certainly will, then what can Ferris do? Go back and accept the offers already on the table? Sure, but if I am Dubas, I'd be saying "that was the offers prior to these two guys signing, the offers now now lower, you shouldn't have played chicken." Is he then going to look for offer sheets? Or sign a fair deal?

Ferris bought into the hype of the offer sheet and expected he'd be able to dictate the price Marner commands, it didn't play out and now its just a stand and wait until someone moves. Dubas can wait, his team is stacked and he doesn't need to get bullied. Marner should know he has until the start of the season and then its either sign a price the Leafs can afford or sit for the entire year. Dubas has the power.

Dubas can wait right up until the start of the season, do you really think every RFA is going hold out? Does anyone honestly think that every RFA is prepared to miss training camp and the start of the season to wait for Marner and Dubas to finish a staring contest?

I certainly don't think that's going to happen. Point will sign before training camp, as will Rantanen and when those numbers come in, Ferris has a market cap, he can't demand much more than either of those guys get, if he does, no one will want to work with him because he's unreasonable.
