The amount seems fine but the term is odd. Why only 1-year?

I'd guess he wanted longer term but him and STL couldn't agree on price. So he'll test free agency next season to try and get a long term deal

Edmundson to me is a guy who's biggest accomplishment is basically playing. He doesn't seem to do a whole lot of useful stuff the minutes on the ice, not even when isolating for zone usage and quality of teammates and opposition. There are plenty of players that play tough minutes and do relatively well in them - Edmundson isn't one of those guys. I wouldn't pay much more than league minimum for him, and this contract seems to be awarded based on his previous salary more than any tangible improvement in his play, cause he had a tough year and a worse playoffs.

I don't know if arbitrators put that much thought into the awarded salary; I think they often just split down the middle (or pretty closely) between player ask and team ask. That's what happened to Edmundson here, as well as the other awards from this offseason (Andrew Copp, Evan Rodrigues, and Christian Djoos).

Edmundson had a rough year last year based on injury. This works for both Blues don't have risk a long-term contract for a player who could get reinjured. and Edmundson can prove the 2nd half of the season was a fluke, but Edmundson also gets a little more money than last year as well.

3.1M might seem like a lot but he got 3 even last year and this years signing walks him straight to UFA. I don't think STL were too high on him, just probably had the cap and wanted to bring the squad back for another go, but it appears they still might lose him next year. There's definitely a big discrepancy of value between team and player. Could be gone at trade deadline if season isn't panning out as planned.

Definitely got awarded more than he's earned from last season. Much prefer Gunnarsson's 1.75M over this, as he's far more responsible with the puck.
