Some good thoughts in here. Imo if we’re trading him we should either go for a young 3rd-liner who can fill-in as a 2c (Someone like Jenner, Bennett, McCann) + prospects or we trade for a top LHD prospect who’s exempt from expansion (someone like POJ, Vaakanainen, Heinola, etc)

Agreed, I had expansion in mind when picking the LD prospects.

I suppose we could also trade him for a similar caliber player who plays wing like Kreider or Zucker and then extend them.

Edit: I also feel like you’re kind of underselling him. I think if we’re gonna make our team worse after a cup, we better get a great package back and probably could.

We do not need a 1st round pick. What we would need is an upgrade to the top 6 or an expansion expempt LD stud, perhaps dealing Schenn in a package with Eddy.

Right, the 1st round pick is if the other team doesn't have any good options at either. It's supposed to be a pretty good draft this year, so no complaint if we get a 1st in dealing Schenn.

Yes, the draft is strong and normally that would be a great pull. But we're after another Cup and Schenn is a legit top 6 player we'd need to replace.

I'm not down with this Tatar trade idea. He's only signed one year longer than Schenn and is nearly the same age, so it's not really an upgrade worth the package. Plus, and this is important, both Schenn and Eddy are big, tough players. Tatar is small without much bite at all. This is a big deal for the Blues style, so MTL would need to give a considerable amount more to swing that trade.

Djoos and a 3rd for Brayden Schenn? Caps almost definitely accept at the deadline, once a little injury cap space opens up on their end, and big retention doesn't seem like such a big ask, on your end. I think replacing Bouwmeester long term makes sense. The blues have plenty of good forwards, and re-signing Schenn could be pretty expensive.

With NYI you might be able to do Wilde 1 for 1 with a resign condition.

Haha honestly I couldn’t think of a single other deal that would make sense for them. They’re in full rebuild and in no need of a one year rental. They would want to unload Ryan though. I don’t think Ryan would be that bad as a middle-six winger at half the price. Maybe we could do better than just a 6th.

Ottawa is just the least likely trade partner out of everyone.

You will get most value out of the team thats looking for a 1/2 C since they are the ones that have the highest chance of resigning and will then pay more
