WPG trade

Créé par: MTLaveragefan
Équipe: 2019-20 Canadiens de Montréal
Date de création initiale: 24 juill. 2019
Publié: 26 juill. 2019
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
WPG gets to dump 2 salary, 2 2nd round pick, Tatar, Rielly, Thompson and a 4th

for Ehlers

WPG gets to sign Connor and Laine, and actually maintain a competitive team.

Let me know in the comment what you would change in that trade.

MTL can afford it.

Kulikov's cap will be off next year -liberates a lot of money to sign Domi and others to an extension. There will be 14M in cap space next year. Domi gets 7.5 - Mete and Juulsen get a bridge deal.

Two years later, Perreault is off the books at the same moment as the rest of the UFAs. Choices will be made
:(

MTL Lines.

1st :

Domi - RP - Gally : Poehling will center an offensive line made to drive Dman crazy. It will be an upgrade on the Tatar - danault- Gally line, but same dynamic.

2nd

Drouin - KK - Ehlers - the skill line, line with the most talent. expecting showmanship from this line. KK's passes will finally reach someone who can put it in.

3rd

Defensive role lines and grinders. Both Danault and Perreault are master of the faceoffs. They will pose a scoring threat, but will mostly prevent any offense from opposing first lines.

4th

3rd line lite

Also... Tatar has two year left while Ehler is signed to a 6M contract for the next 6 years and he is 23.

No way Chevy uses Ehlers to facilitate cap dumps. While Tatar is a nice piece, Rielly and Thompson are not needed. Ehlers will be traded only if a top 4 RHD is coming back.

Chevy tells Bergevin to pound salt! That’s really bad for Winnipeg.

not really - It's a down grade in term of roster player - but in term of cap space and picks, It's not a bad move.

Not a bad move for cap purposes, but having Ehlers who has 60-80 point capabilities on a $6M contract for the next 6 years is invaluable.
I'd sooner trade Connor in terms of financials. But it would have to take a very good deal/package. Nothing close to what's been offered here.

No, it’s terrible! You don’t trade a 60pt player on a sweet deal with term to clear cap space. It’s a great deal for Montreal, not Peg!
If we are talking cap space for Winnipeg how about giving up Suzuki and a first? Because that’s at a minimum of what it would take!

you don't drop cap with Ehlers... you drop 8M with Kulikov and Perreault.

We trade Elhers (whose value is decreased by the accompanying cap dump) for Tatar + two 2nd pick + Rielly + Thompson. The last two players are to replace the bodies lost.

    Ehler is a 60 + pts player, Tatar is a 50+ pts player .

But I understand your point about having him to a reasonable contract

And you don’t depreciate Ehlers value by saddling him with those two. There are plenty of B prospects and picks that can accompany those two but not Ehlers. That was just a fancy way to try and get a top line winger on a great deal by not giving up anything of value.

I would disagree about not sending anything of value - could the package be upgraded, yes, but does it have value, absolutely.

Why don’t we just agree to disagree. I would hope to god Chevy never makes a trade like this!
