Quoting: FireShero
What if the Devils offered him the max for a 3rd round pick: 2 years at $2,113,715? Would that be enough with the limited cap space EDM has or would EDM just trade Gagner/ Manning out as a loss, or bury one in the minors, and match?
Also in your mind, what is the value of Puljujärvi?
Puljujarvi’s value at the moment does not probably operate the same way most players would because of his RFA status, huge potential but zero performance track record. Holland has said he will only trade Pulju for something that helps the team (probably means a similarly struggling prospect with high upside, or a middle six forward from a team over the cap i.e. Vegas or NYR). If such a trade doesn’t exist, I think holland just waits him out like he did with Athanasiou in Detroit.
If that 2.1 mil offer sheet were signed, the oilers match no doubt, and bury Gagner if need be. Puljujarvi would be kind of silly to sign an offer sheet if he doesn’t want to play for the Oil since they can match and then he is stuck in a contract with the Oil. I expect he will wait it out. Now, if some team were stupid enough to go over 3 mil, then maybe the Oil don’t match, but that is not happening because nobody thinks he is worth that.
Point is, an offer sheet for Pulju will not be the way he leaves EDM.
