Why Not? Because it's a bad idea, that's why.
You have $3.46MM in cap space plus 3 significant contracts coming off the books (Greiss, Martin, Boyle) totaling $7.34MM. Add a generous $2.5MM in anticipated cap rise and you have $13.3MM in cap space going into next summer. Don't you think you'll need an additional $8MM or so to sign Barzal? Don't you think you'll need an additional $3MM or so to sign Pulock? Don't you think you'll need an additional $2MM to sign Toews? That leaves you with less than $400,000 to replace the three departing players. Even assuming you can move Clutterbuck, Komarov or Hickey (who will then need replacement, too), you're up against the cap and replacing veterans with entry-level players. Meanwhile, you have to trade Nick Leddy to get a first to replace one of the four firsts you're losing. Are you sure you want to do this?
