Fair AAV and term. Good signing for a team close to the cap. But how will CAR sign Williams? Will it be a salary based on bonuses? probably... or is he gone?

Nope, team and player agreed terms before the arbitration meeting

Not really surprising, it's the same number Hyman got. Personally I think Hyman is more valuable, but that's also because I'm not as familiar with McGinn's game. Thinking this is a pretty fair deal, 16 goals last season at 2.1M is good. I'm sure he's capable of 20.

Nvm, 10 goals last season. So 2 years doesn't sound bad, less risk.

Whoops, Hyman got 2.25M.

Ehh if he gets to 30 points then this is okay. But these are the little overpayments for the lower class.

As it stands now, after the McGinn signing, they are at a titch over $3M in cap space. I think they can likely sign Williams at 1y for $3M - perhaps with a few bonuses bringing it up to $4/4.5M. Of course they wouldn’t want to be so close to the Cap to leave some space in the event Williams or anyone else with performance bonuses (I.e. ELC’s) reaches them and puts them into overage territory.

I think they’ll have no trouble being cap compliant on Day 1 of the season. Moving forward they may look to shed a bit of salary, either via trade (say moving Faulk for a younger, cheaper forward saving $0.5-2M) or via cleaving the roster to 22 instead of 23 for much of the season to allow them to have some space accrued over the course of the year. This would give them greater flexibility in the event of injuries and trades.

In my spreadsheet, I’ve sent Clark Bishop to the AHL to free up roster and cap space for Williams. Of course in event of offseason or preseason injury Bishop could be right back up with the Canes, but as it stands right now I think he’s the 14th F.

As I mentioned above they may want to run with 13x F’s rather than 14 to save a titch of cap space. If everyone is healthy it’s likely a toss between Gibbons, Foegele, and Necas (as he’d not require waivers and would get 1st line mins in Charlotte). They’re all solid NHL forwards though, which is a good problem for CAR to have. Gibbons or Foegele could be snapped up on waivers. But the cap space would help.

So odd seeing Carolina as a Cap Team now. It’s great! In fact it looks like 2/3 of NHL teams will be at/within 5M of the cap this season when all is said and done. Not enough money to go around.

Hymans last 2 seasons = 41 + 40 points
McGinns last 2 seasons = 30 + 26 points

Both are signed for another 2 years.

Brock is 2 years younger, so maybe he proves his worth this season to justify the number. As it currently stands though, I'd much rather have Hyman at 2.25 over McGinn at 2.1.

Is he a hard nosed player though? Stand up for teammates kind?
