I'm voting no, no being based on contract value. But i'd rather this than let him sit out the season. 8M is too much for him IMO, but he's really good.
We might be able to get something for him even at his current contract. No one with take Shattenkirk unless we either retain or pay draft picks to move him.

Or take on an equally bad contract which would defeat the purpose of trading him
A top pairing defensemen in his prime should get this 100%. I don't get why people are upset about this contract. The cap has gone up over the years. It's a great deal IMO
Trouba is a good player and I'd have wanted him to stay. his analytics are around a 2nd pair level but I think he still has the potential to improve and he'll put up more points with PP time.
Even next year after all the top contracts are signed, Trouba looks to be paid as a top 10 Dman. Probably not worth 8m right now but we'll see how the contract ages. At least Trouba is young enough to even improve and to maintain a high level of play throughout the life of the deal.

Look at what Myers just got from VAN. Trouba is much, much more valuable. But this deal sure makes Carlson seem like an excellent value.
The rest of this summer is going to be interesting for Gorton and Rangers fans, as they are now well over the cap limit with good players still to sign.
