Description
Dumping KS for a mid-low 1st is fair. I see PB straight up for Campbell, which would be an awesome back up for HL and he's cheap this year (could extend him?), meanwhile picking up good 3rd pair Dman in Forbort and experienced 3/4th liner Lewis - both on expiring contracts. Losing PB is a bummer, but Trouba will cost $$$. Seems to work for both teams.

absolutely not. the Rangers are not trading away a first round draft pick in the deepest draft since 2003.

I don't know enough about PB to evaluate the deal. Can you give me a little blurb about his game/where he fits in a lineup?

Based off of the Marleau dump, the 1st is the minimum you'll need to get rid of KS's two years with no retention. So looking at the rest, its PB and MB for Forbort, Campbell, Lewis, and 2 picks. That seems lopsided in New York's favor.

Also, side-question. Do Rangers fans expect to make the playoffs this coming year, or will it take another year for Kakko to mature/learn the game?

None of those players or picks are at all needed by the Rangers (especially the goalie). Attaching Buchnevich and a first round pick to get rid of Shattenkirk is too much.

Obvious wishful thinking from a Kings fan. Hopefully, the Rangers would never do this.

Did you just compare.....Marleau to Shattenkirk?

Jeez wouldn't even do Shattenkirk for Doughty straight up...

Not as players, no. They play completely different positions. Purely from the perspective of a team that's making a trade to give you 7mil in cap space for the next two years. Teams are weaponizing their cap space, and if you want that much off the books without retention, it's going to cost you similarly.

And if you wouldn't trade Shattenkirk for Doughty, I really don't think we'll see eye to eye on anything else (which is fine). Doughty had a bad year last year, that's a given. He's still one of the top 3 defenders in the league AND he's under 30. Don't get caught up in stats, they arent the end-all be-all. The only defenseman in the league I'd take over Doughty at this moment is Hedman.

Make the first-rounder the 2021 pick, and both teams should probably do this.

The Rangers miss the playoffs this year, and the 2020 is another lottery pick. They dump Shattenkirk and Beleskey (68 ineffective games in the last 3 seasons) and get three roster players, including a backup who is at least as good, if not better, than Georgiev. The Kings get another first-round pick in 2021 and Pavel Buchnevich, plus a patch on their right side for a season or two.

The thought that this trade is one sided for the Kings is laughable. Forbort is an average defender and Lewis is a good bottom 6 forward but they both are UFAs at the end of the season. Campbell with a losing record and on the second worst team had the 3rd highest save percentage and 5th highest GAA while appearing in 31 games. Shattenkirk has been an unmitigated disaster in NY and Belesky is barely an NHLer anymore. You couldn’t pay me to take them on just so we’d get Buchnevich and a 1st.

Can’t compare the Rangers to Leafs here- the Leafs are a Cup contending team in a “5 alarm fire” situation of a cap crunch with their top young star requiring a BIG contract....They gave up the 1st due to the urgency of gaining Marleau’s cap space (really no other options)...the Rangers are a few years out from being Cup contenders who need the cap space to sign pieces of their team- albeit important- less significant than Marner...AND the Rangers do have other options to clear the cap space they need....so moving a 1st is completely off the table.
As far as Buch...he had been rumored on the market...but he is a top 6 talent...probably top line talent- who is ready to really hit his stride..,AND he is cost controlled for 2 more years...any deal for him I would think would involve a top 5 prospect + a pick (2nd rnd?) or a 1st plus a later round pick or B prospect

I’m literally just going by on ice performance. Don’t get caught up in stats such as wins or anything that’s going to contribute to wins...it’s not the end all... lol

But what’s more concerning is the top 3 dman thing I mean

Pesce, Klingberg, Ekholm, Lindholm, Hamilton, Parayko, Karlsson, Giordano all superior off the top of the head. Cmon you’re better than this.

Kings are taking on alot of $$$ and they'd have to dump some, otherwise it's close and they might not do it. This has a ripple effect so they can resign Trouba otherwise it's pointless for NYR. The NYR 1st rounder is mid-late based on their line up and the Breadman in town and KK. They're a playoff team and need that push now because HL ain't gonna be around forever. Besides, Forbort and Lewis drop off after this year and Campbell is UFA so NYR gets $5mm cap and loses $6mm with ****tenkirk, that's an $11mm wing in 1 year! It's a no-brainer for NYR, but questionable for LAK.
