Hard pass on DSP. Especially on the third line.

I feel bad because I was down on Shumakov on this board, the day before he quit Hershey, so maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better, which is silly, because Shumakov has earned more from hockey already than I will likely earn in my whole life, but still....

the Caps have three terrific Russian-speaking players and we'd all love to see them add a couple more and build on a strength to make their team even better. We're getting distracted talking about Gusev, but the salary cap would require moving Eller, who we know is a terrific two-way NHL center, making him more valuable than I'd predict Gusev is, this year.

So should the Caps focus on lower risk options like Shumakov, Nikushkin, Scherbak, or Goldobin? If I had to guess, only Goldobin earns more than a million this year. Woul the other three want to play together as a scoring line in Hershey, to salvage their NHL hopes, and help each other rekindle what once looked like promising offensive careers? No idea who plays center, but between two former first round picks and a guy who was top-20 in the KHL in points a couple years ago, they should really get something going. Hopefully they earn their way back to the NHL for next year, and hopefully one or two stick around with Washington, when they do?

Dont get me wrong. He was awesome during the run to the cup but when given the chance to capitalize he failed and was demoted. He's a great story with a great moment but not a great, or even good, player. I wish him well wherever he goes but he has to go

DSP? Didn't that ship sale after this year? We don't have the cap and he played piss poor in his 50 some games in the regular season.

We just signed 3 forwards who are better than DSP, and Boyd is also still on the roster.

Why do we need DSP? We don't. If he wants a 2 way contract with us, and start the season in Hershey, okay then.

Pelly's QO would have been $724,500 (2-way) contract. The Caps didn't even what to offer that just to keep him from becoming a UFA. So why would they sign him to a $800K 1 way, when they didn't even want to sign him for $724,500?

The Caps themselves would rather give that $ to trying out Leipsic, or call-ups from Hershey. Pelly is the embodiment of dime-a-dozen and the Caps are moving on and trying other such players to see if anyone works out better, like the previously mentioned Leipsic, or maybe Sgarbossa (although I think that he is a career AHLer), etc.
