Description

Buffalo has said that they intend to keep Ristolainen long term and they just acquired Montour, Miller, and Jokiharju. Assuming Jokiharju and Pilut are ready for full time NHL spots, and Nelson and Hunwick are depth, the Sabers still have the 9 guys listed in the lineup below. They have to get rid of 2 RHD and 1 LHD. Nobody wants to trade for Nelson/Hunwick, and even if they did, I don't think any of the 9 guys in the lineup would be okay with being scratched long term, so what happens?

A) Buffalo gives up an asset or retains salary to move Scandella and/or Bogosian (don't tell @bogo_norris).

B) They backtrack and trade Ristolainen, since no NHL GM's word really means anything anyway.

C) They were stockpiling RHD and were conspiring all along to create a market inefficiency so they can flip Montour or Miller for more than they paid.

D) They waive their entire 4th line, and run 9F 9D.

But in all seriousness, what do you guys think the plan is?

Trading ristolainen for the best forward available makes the most sense. Honestly the only way i dont see him moved is if the market is incredibly soft- the standard fare 2nd round pick and guy making 5 million that nobody wants. It gets tricky if thats the case because bogosian, hunwick, scandella, and nelson are all going to be more difficult to move, and absolutely nothing of value is coming back this way. We still have holes up front so im not sure how those get filled with the players available if ristolainen isnt one of them.

Let Joker develop in the AHL for a year. Keep our D core together for this season but trade Scandella and Hunwick. When Joker is ready for top 4 mins, trade Miller for a decent forward. Then our D group looks like:

Dahlin-Joker
McCabe-Montour
Pilut-RIsto

As for forwards, we either need to play MoJo as 3rd line center or acquire another short-term center so that Mitts isn't screwed like last year. Also let's put some faith in Olofsson, I think he has a great rookie season and establishes himself as a legit top 6 scorer. If he does then why are we still looking for a top 6 guy?

I don't think Bogo is worth a scratch, so do you trade him? Pilut is 23 so he's done his time in the AHL.

Also, totally forgot to call up Olofsson before I hit submit. Do you scratch the 2015 all star? Send down Tage?

Bogo will be injured for a while but when healthy yiu can trade him. Pilut has only 1 year in the AHL but hes ready for the NHL. Scratch Sobadka cause hes garbage
